Today we’d like to introduce you to D’Mauri Jones.
D’Mauri, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Leesburg, Florida, raised by a mother with three other siblings. I grew up loving art and music as a child what caught my interest musically was the bass, beats, melodies and instruments within the sound. Artistically I love colors creating things from imagination. I would sketch athletes that I felt impacted my life in ways like Mike Vick, Allen iversion, Tracy Mcgrady, etc. which showed my love towards sports as well. I was raised in a very competitive environment, so that impacted my mentality growing up. Eat or get ate. I got into sports at the age of nine. I played basketball, football and track. Mainly basketball and football that carried me all the way through high school. Won a state championship in basketball. But football I felt was the route to go. I attended the University of Miami. I played there for four years with a B.A in Arts and Science.
After suffering an injury to my foot, I had to get a screw insertion to the foot. It mentally put me to a deep space, just thinking things won’t be the same like me forgoing my football career. I felt I lost it all. But I kept faith with God and he presented me my gift from what was overshadowed by sports through the years. Painting is truly a gift I’m humbly grateful for that is allowing me to touch others emotionally, which leads me back to my music. I love writing and coming up with creative flows for tracks that I can connect with my artwork. What was presented to me early on is reoccurring in my life as part of my love and my why. I’m bringing something different to the culture. Just watch.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it hasn’t! It definitely wouldn’t change it for the world. It completely molded me into the man I am today. But yes, dealing with financial issues coming up making sure my family was my first priority, unity was what kept me going. Becoming your own boss alone, you have to learn the ins and outs about maintaining a business, becoming a store focusing on painting on the best material for clients, creating platforms to stay connected with clients and provide the best distribution to your clientele. With music involved just finding the time to balance it all. It’s all adjusting but I’m enjoying the process.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
Artist – painter, musician, graphic designer, creative director and visual director. I’m known mainly from my Art and Music. Musician name is Supa.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Yes, God first off, without him, I’m nothing. My mom is my biggest inspiration; she taught me love and to always be genuine. She kept faith in me and the way she carried the situation made me a proud son always. Even if the situation was ugly, she would always find the light out of the bad. I grew up loving sports like Kimbo slice, Lebron James, Mike Jordan, Mike Vick, Kobe Bryant. They taught me to keep a dawg mentality. Go after everything you want in life and stay tenacious.
