Today we’d like to introduce you to Jahn Karsybaev.
Jahn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The story of the Ivy Podcast had started as an experiment. During my early days in my career, I had always strived for having the best and most accomplished executives as my mentors. So, during my studies at Harvard, one of my professors had suggested that I interview one of his friends (who was an executive at a major company at a time) and I didn’t have any means or tools to conduct that particular interview. I started doing research and came across a few podcasting platforms that would provide me with an ability to launch a podcast quickly. Long story short, I was able to have a great conversation with that executive on the newly launched (free version) of a podcast and he was gracious enough to introduce me further to some of his executive friends.
Fast forward to now, we have a growing platform where top executives from Fortune 500 global organizations and founders of some great start-ups are being interviewed on a weekly basis. Through Ivy Podcast, my goal is to uncover some of the practical strategies and insights that these executives have utilized to implement winning strategies at their organizations. There is a lot of material on the web and the books, but I feel that these personal interviews provide a more meaningful and relatable content when it comes to what works and what does not.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been smooth at all and we are still learning a lot as we go. Some of the struggles that continue to present themselves on a frequent basis involve getting the most interesting executive to participate. We are now working with CEOs and other C-level executives from top organizations and getting their attention is not easy. My goal is to host people like Jeff Bezos, Barack Obama, Elon Musk and for that, we have to establish ourselves as a legitimate and credible source, where only the brightest minds come to share their strategies.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Growing up in Kazakhstan (former Soviet republic), I have so many memories. My Father is an Olympic boxing coach who has raised several Olympians and medalists, so it was inevitable that I would be into boxing as well. Through high school, I have competed and these memories I will forever cherish as they have helped me form my character and discipline. A lot of times, I was afraid to get in the ring and box with my opponent, who maybe was bigger and stronger, but digging deep in yourself and finding that courage to move forward and not show your fear, that’s the most cherished memory from my childhood.
