Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Rodriguez.
Mia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My art story pretty much got started when I was young, I grew up in a family surrounded by different types of artists, from musicians, painters, and architects so I knew sooner or later I’d choose art. I’ve always been attracted to the art field but wasn’t sure yet on what. I just new art was something that came out natural for me and I’m very grateful for it. Before I fully got into drawing, I found a love for film photography in high school. I liked the way it was hands-on, the way I could create something so freely without having to use so much technology taking away from my creativity. Once you take that away and start using digital, it took that fun part away from me and I soon realized it wasn’t something I saw myself doing as a career, so I took time off to really figure out what it was I wanted.
In the process of it all, I randomly started doodling at home one day and realized how great it felt. The more I did it the more I knew that’s what I want to feel everyday of my life. Since that day, I’ve done nothing but work on progressing on my art skills and making art that I enjoy making. I’m very grateful to have been given the opportunity to have people who support what I do and others who enjoy what I make, and hopefully I keep bringing in more people who will also enjoy looking at my art the way I do. Where I am today with my art is still not the end but the beginning, I still have much to learn and work on but besides that, I’m glad people support it. At the moment, I do continue to make commissions and sell my art and I hope I continue to do so.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I definitely is never a smooth road, as an artist you are your worst critic. I want my art to speak for itself, from my feelings to my mind/thoughts. Some days I have so much going on and other days, I feel nothing, but I have to step back to process it all to understand what I want to do with it. I’m still trying to learn how to deal with things, and when I do I still choose to take a break and doodle on about it. I knew being an artist was never going to be easy, it’s a challenging career and everyone is always trying to challenge themselves into new things but that’s what’s fun about it, it’s something that will continue to make me grow plus it’s fun!
Please tell us about La Vie Morte.
My art brand is La Vie Morte, I do tons of paintings but also digital drawings. I make commissions and sell my art as well. I specialize in making art that’s not only fun to look at, laugh at or enjoy but also question it and cause reaction. What I am most proud of is that I get to make art that I can share and also sell to people who also enjoy it. The feeling I get from knowing someone can look at it and let me know they like what I make. I guess what really sets me apart from others is my style, I know it’s something different from others. From the creepy aspect to the cuteness of it blended into one.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I was able to start over, I wouldn’t change anything because everything that I’ve been through to get here has taught me what I needed to know. Its what I do with the information that I have now that will teach me to do things differently now.
