Today we’d like to introduce you to Sparkle Jack.
Sparkle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was looking for a new job and instead stumbled upon an internship at a modeling agency. The agency was owned by Michele Pommier, who established the very first modeling agency on south beach. Michele shared the office space with a gentleman by the name of Kevin Jones, he actually worked remotely for another agency based in New York. Mr. Jones took me under his wing and taught me about the modeling side of the fashion industry, from top to bottom.
One day Mr. Jones and I were chatting and he brought up how he had the idea to start his own agency and call the female models barbie dolls, and the male models would be ken dolls. He laughed at the idea but I couldn’t get it out of my head for a week. So a week later, I asked him ” Do you mind if I take your idea?” He said “Only if you make it great” and that was how the idea of Dollhouse Management came about in 2013.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to entrepreneurship is not easy in general. I knew nothing and was going into this journey blind. I had to do my own research into licensing, insurance, finding out how to create my own website, securing the domain, etc. The other struggle was finances, as I was not in a position to go big or go home so to speak. However, I believed in my ability to scout good talent so I kept pushing forward. I funded everything myself out of pocket and have done so ever since. Currently, I am looking for investors, grants, possibly even a partner as I am trying to expand but that truly has been time-consuming and difficult.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dollhouse Management – what should we know?
What is a mother agency? A mother agent or agency is usually the first modeling agency you begin working with when you start your modeling career. A mother agent can also be a scout that discovered you and helped you get your start. This is what Dollhouse Management is. A mother agency that can see what is special in their models and works hard to make sure other agencies can see that too. I have developed an eye for what a client is looking for when it comes to using models. I love to teach, develop, and guide the models so they can get an opportunity to live out their dreams.
I’m truly proud of all the models and how they put their trust in me so I can help them reach their goals in this industry.
The difference between others and myself is my overall approach. I am very transparent and do not sugarcoat anything. The models really appreciate my communication and how I am just very open and honest with them all.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Kevin Jones. He has been in the business for over 30 years, and he really has been a positive force in my life when it came to the creation of Dollhouse Management. He definitely is the definition of an individual that never gives up. His kind words when I feel frustrated or on the verge of wanting to just throw in the towel have always gotten me through the storm.
