Meet Ignacio Arocena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ignacio Arocena.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ignacio. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Miami but lived all my life in Chile until 2017 when I moved back to the US to pursue my music career. I am a singer-songwriter. My style is a reflection of my mixed heritage, Cuban-Spanish mom, and Uruguayan dad. During my childhood, I resonated with the Caribbean rhythms of Juan Luis Guerra and the tender melodies of Bacilos. Needless to say, these South American styles permeate my compositions. My lyrical style is inspired by the work of some of South America’s most prolific writers including Jorge Drexler, Diego Torres, and Rubén Rada. I think my music could be categorized in the TropiPop field however I plan on exploring as many music genres as well!

Music has always been my passion. I am romantic at heart, and you can tell by my lyrics that words are profound and I choose them well. My guitar is my life´s companion. I need my guitar in order to write songs and bring them to life. I am lucky to be able to dedicate my life to my passion. Being on a stage when I can perform my songs is the most amazing experience for me. I live for those moments!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve had challenges as we all do. But I love the challenges that I have had to deal with. They have all paved the way for what I consider will be an amazing future. Right now, the most difficult thing is not being able to sing and compose full time. I will be finishing my senior year in college in Nashville 2021 and then I will be free to dedicate my life 150% to my music. And I can’t wait!

However, I can’t complain about how my career is progressing. I’m fortunate to have the backing of The Hachar Music Group. Since I’m working with them, my career has become professionalized and the rewards are unlimited. The future looks very promising!

My biggest struggle is that I am not able to write songs in English, yet. But, I will overcome that hurdle in the near future for sure!

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I have been composing and performing my songs since high school. I started recording my songs in 2017 and releasing them in Spotify and other digital platforms. You can say that was the beginning of my career as an artist. As I gain experience as an artist, I have been exploring new styles of expressions and I have performed live as much as possible.

I am in a very musically productive moment this summer. I am in the process of producing four new songs and my first music video. This has not been easy, living in the middle of a pandemic. However, I’ve also realized that we would not have been able to survive this lockdown experience without the music in all our lives. Music is an inspiration, a refuge and it is no doubt the reason why I get up in the mornings. Being in quarantine in Miami, I have recorded and made videos with musicians and producers in Miami, Tel Aviv, Nashville, Santiago de Chile, and Spain without leaving my apartment in Brickell. The creative possibilities with music are endless and absolutely inspiring.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The sky’s the limit! I am young and full of energy. In the short term, I plan to continue developing my brand, Ignacio Arocena. Keep learning about the music industry which is complex and fascinating. Continue meeting key people in the industry, producing, and generating content as much as I can. I am constantly working on my musical skills and exploring new sounds and new ways to express what my generation feels. Writing songs for me is always going on. It will never stop. I hope that the more I write the better the songs will be. I like to dedicate as much time as I can to music but I love to let things flow and be open to new experiences: my life is a combination of dreaming in the future and letting go and living in the now.

In three weeks, I will be releasing my next single. It’s a special song for me, I have a lot of faith that my public will love it. It’s called “Ayer te Hallé” inspired by African and Dominican rhythms. We produced the song long distance with a friend living in Tel Aviv during quarantine. It took a lot of hard work especially since I was recording at home. But it was definitely worth it! The video is being produced by another friend living in Santiago de Chile. The quarantine has made us much more creative and resourceful than I ever imagined.
