Meet Alexandra Marciello of AM Event Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Marciello.

Alexandra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Owning an event firm was never the starting goal. As an advertising and communications major, my involvement in events was mostly based around the public relations and marketing aspect. Because of that, I found myself in many hospitality-based environments and gained a lot of experience with events of all sizes and types. From there, after completing a Makeup Artistry program, I began a bridal makeup company and had the pleasure of beautifying brides and their girls all throughout Miami and Toronto. Fast forward a few years and I had put on events with many different organizations, from MOCA in Miami to hotels brands and grass-roots arts organizations. That lead me to Toronto where I launched part of the Canadian RAW Natural Born Artists division as Showcase Director.

It was meant to be that shortly after, a building being renovated was looking for someone to take over and drive the business forward. There is where my love for events and my experience in hospitality, wedding photography, makeup artistry and creative direction collided into one and the result was a boutique wedding and arts venue in an old 1800’s spice factory. I realized that I excelled in the capacity to bring together a team and my creative vision to host memorable events under other brands and that it was time I put that energy into something that was my own. Let’s just say that hundreds of weddings and events later, a short time as a Sales Director for a luxury Miami caterer and AM Event Co came to be!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, I am lucky to have made great connections and lasting friendships with many industry professionals that have been a great support system since opening in May of 2019. I have had the typical new business struggles, though because I have been involved in multiple start-ups things are moving along quite well – other than this little Pandemic that decided to come and crash on the event industry parade! Even so, I am grateful to have wonderful clients who continue to reach out and look towards the future to continue planning their events with us or to start planning with us!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
AM Event Co is an all-encompassing event firm. We handle everything from corporate and social event planning to floral design, beauty and full production. We like to consider ourselves as a one-stop shop that can handle all event needs. Of course, we enlist some of our wonderful vendor partners to carry out some of the services. Though, in house we handle all floral design and decor from conception execution and all planning services. Though makeup is an art form that I love, I have stepped back from taking on clients personally (unless it is special circumstance) and have a team of talented guys and gals that we work with to provide mobile beauty services to our clients. Overall, it seems that we have been most popular for our floral design which usually leads to us handling at minimum day of or month of planning services. Our floral style is relaxed and organic, with a touch of luxury. We love thinking outside the box and do best when given a blank canvas venue to create magic in. I always say my dream event is a crummy, industrial space that I can beautify with all the tricks I have up my sleeve.

What were you like growing up?
I was the Disney and broadway singing, living room dance performer who always had to steal the spotlight. The long time running family joke is that anytime someone pulled out a video recorder you would see little Alex jumping in front of it yelling “look at me, look at me.” That definitely went away as I got a bit older though! Overall, I was pretty cheery, loved the arts and family was always very important.
