Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordi Pla.
Jordi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started tattooing by accident, I used to be a graffiti artist when I was in high school but I got in trouble with the police. So when I went to college for aerospace engineering at Broward Community College then I transferred to UCF. In Orlando, my cousin lives there and my cousin was dating a tattoo artist. He sold me my first Tattoo machine I was doing it as a hobby but I feel in love with it so I transferred to FIU to study art and got an apprenticeship at Chico’s marked four life in Miami. That where I been for the last five years. Since then, I been to over 100 tattoo conventions all of the east coast and overseas. I got to participate in ink master for season 13.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I had to take a big risk from being secure with a career in engineering, I was a year away from graduating before I switch to become a tattoo artist. I never thought I would be where I’m at so quick after making the switch.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I work for Chico Marked 4 Life. I’m an international award-winning tattoo artist. I specialize in realistic tattoo portrait work and custom designs. I have also participated in season 13 of ink master.
What were you like growing up?
I was an outgoing kid that worked hard and had a passion for arts.
