Meet Nichola Lynch of Seandonaldsonhair in Miami Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nichola Lynch.

Nichola, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my career back in Dublin, Ireland when I was 16 with Tony and Guy. I stayed with the company for eight years and cannot thank them enough for what I got out of that company; they are truly the best worldwide. When I was 21, I decided I want to go to America so I pretty much just booked a flight no real plan and off I went to try figure it out. I ended up in Miami and loved it everybody back home told me I was crazy and that I would never get a job because I didn’t speak Spanish. I was in Miami about eight months and my boyfriend at the time met. A guy who said he managed a salon that just opened called Cutler they were a New York Based salon that just opened a location in Miami. I went and I interviewed and a week later I started Rodney who is the owner of Cutler was and still to this day one of my biggest inspirations he pushed me and gave me so many opportunities that I will always be so grateful for, he gave me my first opportunity to work with a celebrity which was Nikki Hilton. I had no clue what I was doing but that’s the type of guy he is, he pretty much would just through you in head first to situations if he believed in you…I got to travel to New York twice a year for fashion week and work on multiple shows and had so much fun, I remember working with Rodney on one show and I found the hair so challenging and difficult to do and he made me work by myself on that Model to push me to learn the technique, inside I was dying I just wanted to burst into tears but looking back I’m always so grateful that he did that… I worked for Cutler for four years and unfortunately, we closed our Miami Beach location and from there I started working with Sean Donaldson hair who I have now been with the company for seven years we have a team of 35 people and I have managed the salon for the last five years!!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My mum would always say that I am a person that I will always land on her feet… But no definitely not I would literally call my parents weekly and ask them to send me money over here because I did not have a penny… but once I started working at the salon I was determined to build a clientele and be busy I would do free blow dries for clients that had color services just to get to know them I would stand in the salon By the front desk for 8 to 12 hours a day even if I didn’t have a client just hoping a client would walk through the door. The hard thing about Miami is it’s seasonal so people come and go so you have to give 1000% at all times to build and keep your clientele.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Seandonaldsonhair story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in haircutting. I love to do all types of hair but I think what I would be known for is long hair and Precision cutting and I love to style hair also. Our company has been open for close to ten years we have a huge space in Miami Beach and we also have a second location in Brickell City Center we have such a great team we are truly like one big family and for me that is so special since I live away from home and I do not have family here, I really cherish that. Sean the owner is Scottish I am Irish, we have people from Spain, Denmark, Honduras, Venezuela, Peru, Cape Verde, Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I definitely think I’m a very lucky person but I also think that I am an extremely hard worker and everything that has brought me to where I am today. I’ve worked for it; I definitely get that from my mum who I just completely adore her in every way… she is a total boss lady she can turn a dollar into $1 million I haven’t been so lucky and learned that trait from her yet LOL, but yes I still work extremely hard and that is my biggest and always will be my go to tip for anyone in life. Over the years, I have done so much free work and still do a lot of free work but I do believe that it will always bring more opportunities you have to have the right mindset to learn that and don’t let any opportunity pass.
