Today we’d like to introduce you to Nigel Howard.
Nigel, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was always interested in the arts, and from a young age, I dabbled in a bit of everything. I liked to draw, had (and still have) a strong affinity towards music, I even sang in my churches choir as a child. In high school, I was introduced to the world of multimedia production, taking photography classes in school, and being a part of a local media afterschool program. I obtained a great deal of valuable experience, shooting various events, documentaries, plays, commercials, and more. Upon graduation, I continued to press on studying multimedia at Florida Atlantic University, producing music videos, documentaries, and promotional pieces, among other various multimedia projects.
Has it been a smooth road?
I think one of the bigger challenges for myself, as well as a lot of other creators, is figuring out what exactly my style is. I’ve gone through a lot of trial and error trying different looks and methods to give my work its own identity and really distinguish it from the plethora of other works there is out there in our digital age. Not only with style but also just what area of photography or videography lane I wish to be a part of. Will I focus on portraits? Real estate? Will I shoot commercials? Or editorial? Very valid questions that for me personally, I pride myself on garnering versatility.
Please tell us about iWorkMagicDaily.
iWorkMagicDaily is a multimedia production company focusing on portrait photography and video production. I’m known mostly for fashion/streetwear portrait photography, as well as music video production. However, given my “jack of all trades” nature, I’ve done lots of event photo/videography, promotional video pieces for, businesses, realtors, and local musical artists as well as graphic design, and album artwork. As a company, I’m most proud of my ability to serve a wide array of customers, from corporate types, looking for a clean-cut, straightforward project to more artsy individuals looking to make something more creative.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Technology is steadily increasing, so things will get more affordable, as they have been, which is why the current music video production industry is where it is now. Which in my opinion, is kind of leading to a bit of oversaturation of the market, but given that, I think it will breed better directors because there’s so much more to compete with. Given this new virus outbreak, I feel that the industry at least for now is halted, and going to force people more into the broadcast field, and below the line, positions will be more valuable, in the pre- and post-production phase of things. People like editors, and documentarians making things from found footage, and especially animators, and writing teams together could still function as if nothing had happened, given social distance isn’t a factor for those positions, we might even see an uptick in voice actors. Who knows, if this keeps up, we might have wholly CGI films with the actors only doing voices and movements in mocap suits, or movies shot in the same fashion as Jordan Peele’s ‘Us’.
