Today we’d like to introduce you to Mackinley L Madhere.
Mackinley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Prior to Photography, I was a well known graphic designer. I didn’t realize Photography would be a passion on mine. It wasn’t until my Mentor Frantz Lahens Introduced me to the business. He was a well-known photographer in Miami who took me under his wing.
I wasn’t a fan at first. Frantz even enrolled me in a photography class and I later dropped out. It seemed boring. Yet, it was his business savvy and coaching that really appealed to me. I later enrolled in a business class that would help me to merge photography, my skills as a graphic designer and business under one umbrella. I became a one-stop-shop for my current and new clients.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t a smooth road for the first four years in business. The hardest part was building my clientele and not having enough capital to buy equipment. I was also still working an overnight job. It was hard to balance everything.
Spex Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Spex Photography is a collaboration of self-expression through the art of photography, movement and color. At spex we take your ideas and bring meaning by advancing them with creativity and imagination. Both of these components play a major role in human vitality. As Humans, creativity helps us deal with stress and other major issues in today’s society. It also provides room to unleash the inner you through the works of pictures and fluorescent color.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’m so humbled to have worked on so many great projects. From working with the cast of Love and hip Hop to shooting world-class Artists such as Spice, Trina, K. Michelle, Amara La Negra, Joseline Hernandez, Alkaline, Pretty Ricky, Safaree, T-Vice, Klass, Arly Lariviere, Phyllisia Ross, Harmonik, Rutshelle, Briana Perry, and the list goes on and on (please don’t kill me if I don’t mention your name). I really appreciate all my clients. They made me who I am today.
