Meet Antonio Nesbitt of Fitness By Nesbitt in South Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonio Nesbitt.

Antonio, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My passion for fitness derives from my love of two things- interpersonal relationship building & helping people become better versions of themselves. Prior to becoming a trainer full-time, I built and used these skills working in criminal justice reform as a policy analyst & researcher. In this position, I was able to see the direct impact that exercise (or lack thereof) could have on recidivism rates- especially when it came to youth offenders. Additionally, I was able to see what working in a fast-paced, high-stress career could do to the human body & psyche. After a couple of years of prioritizing my work over my health, I finally decided to funnel more energy into an outlet I had relied on in the past- movement.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of my strongest beliefs is that the only thing you can really control in life is yourself and your reaction to adversity. Though the road hasn’t always been smooth for me, I consider any obstacle I’ve faced to be a test of how well I can navigate that experience while staying positive and realistic about all possible outcomes. Some of these struggles include the early stages of my transition between careers, providing fitness education in China, and moving to Miami to pursue training full time. These unique challenges taught me valuable lessons and gave me opportunities to grow both inside and out.

Please tell us about Fitness By Nesbitt.
My primary goal as a movement coach is to find ways to help someone either move MORE or move BETTER than their current capacities. However, I believe what sets me apart from other trainers is the variety of ways in which I can provide continuous value to my clients. Fitness By Nesbitt offers personal training, online coaching & specialized education services to both adults and youth alike. Our certified services include weightlifting, sports performance coaching, mobility training, and group fitness. We also have experience creating and delivering various curricula in learning environments both here and abroad.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I still consider my current journey incomplete, so I try not to think about starting over too much. However, I’ve learned two very important lessons that have helped propel me forward thus far. First, is to always live life with intention and gratitude. Without those present in our daily habits, it is very hard to overcome any obstacles that will inevitably get in the way of our success. Secondly, when it comes to choosing a career, I would say avoid attaching yourself to any particular person, place, company, organization etc. Instead, I would try to attach yourself to a mission, a calling, or a purpose ONLY. Thats how you keep your power & your peace of mind!
