Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Dias.
Deborah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I moved from New Jersey when I was 18 years old & I didn’t know what I wanted to get into. I suffered with skin issues and decided to go to Boca Beauty Academy to become a skin care specialist and help others in their journeys. After graduating, I took an eyelash extension course & since then, I have opened my business, made countless friends through my career, and have expanded into a bigger location with a full staff less than two years into my career. I love helping women feel beautiful & empowered. I want my space to feel like a safe haven or a sanctuary for people to be at peace and leave feeling better than when they arrived. I’m blessed to be able to do what I love everyday.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of my struggles were: Not being from the area. Not knowing anyone really set me back because I didn’t have many friends to practice on, or start a clientele with. Luckily I worked various jobs to help me meet more people, network, and have a better support system. Another setback was not having many friendly people in the beauty community. Sometimes things can get dramatic & catty, but when you find the right group of women who lift each other up, it really makes this Industry a better place. I love the girl gang we’ve created in the community and everyone CAN sit with us.
Please tell us about Mind, Beauty + Soul.
Mind, Beauty + Soul is a partnership between my best friend & I. We are known for our eyelash extensions & facials. We will be expanding our menu as soon as we expand. We are also very known for our spirituality and energy. We make sure that people manifest their dreams in our space and they usually tend to come true. I’m most proud of how far Mind, Beauty + Soul has come. It’s gone from a room in my apartment, to a suite in a “salon mall” to now it’s own 1400 sq. Ft. Space in only one year. We’ve grown so much so quickly. It’s actually overwhelming but in the best way. What sets us apart is our brand. We really bring both spirituality and beauty into one with our space. Everything is based on being the best version of yourself & finding your tribe. We’ve created friendships amongst clients that never would’ve met without us. It’s the best feeling bringing so many people together with common interests. Our brand really attracts our tribe and we are so honored for that.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Picking one memory is hard. My top three would be:
1. Eating crazy amounts of Chinese food with my dad. We’re obsessed and we could eat Chinese food for days. To this day, it is still my favorite kind of food.
2. Cheerleading for most of my life, with my sister on my team. Cheerleading took up most of my free time when I was younger.
3. Playing with my older sister and giving our barbies haircuts & “makeovers” with nail polish and markers. We got in so much trouble but our creativity definitely came through.
