Meet Olajide Wilkerson of Illusion Hair Industries DBA Hair Goddess Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olajide Wilkerson.

Olajide, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Consistency, Faith and Passion are what got me to where I am today. By the age of 12, I had developed a passion for hair. I loved getting my hair done and was always trying new styles. It was this passion that fueled my interest and by 21, I entered the Hair Extension Industry. While going to Florida International University full time and working as a waitress, I was presented with an opportunity to become a hair distributor. Little did I know This opportunity would change my life. I began selling Raw Virgin Indian hair on commission. Within 2 years I built an elite clientele of doctors, teachers, basket ball wives and political elite. I decided I was ready to open my own store.

What I didn’t know was that the road to entrepreneurship would be bumpy.

I have experienced many challenges in my entrepreneurial career. To name a few; Multiple Failed locations due to lack of knowledge and misinformation, Being forced to close due to a robbery and loss of $60,000 in inventory, Broken partnerships in business, Lack of boundaries and not honoring my worth. The biggest one that has impacted every area of my life is the lack of Self care and Fear. I was able to overcome these challenges by investing in personal development seminars, believing in myself and trusting God. The fear of failure obstacle was overcome by me stepping out on faith and never giving up. I choose to never let my circumstances dictate my future. This is a principal I live by on a daily basis. My passion and love for entrepreneurship has also fueled my determination

Despite the roadblocks and sinkholes on my journey, I was able to use my failures as feedback. I implemented what work and didn’t work. I was able to create a business system that allows me to earn 6 figures. Today I am the CEO of Illusion Hair Industries, LLC, founder of Hair Goddess Boutique, International Business Consultant and Coach, Motivational Speaker, Prosperity Mentor and Community Partner. I refused to let my circumstances dictate my future!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I honestly look at life as blessings and opportunities. I’ve had many blessings of having the right people and opportunities show up in my life at the right time. Throughout my failures and unfortunate circumstances, I have always been able to pick my self up and chase my dreams because of my mindset to never give up. I live by my motto of “ Your circumstances do not dictate your future.”

My mother plays a huge role in my success. From birth, she positioned me to receive the best education, opportunities and mentors. As a child, I watched her travel and be her own boss. Those memories and her support prompted me to venture out on my own. She also taught me the importance of culture, compassion, community, entrepreneurship and leadership. She instilled in me that you must know who you are and always have a market (business), respect and listen to your elders, and do the best you can. These principals grounded me and gave me positive morals to lead me forward.
