Meet Vanessa Ospina of VO Bridal in Coral gables

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Ospina.

Vanessa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always loved styling hair way before beauty school. It was why I started in the beauty industry after all. I thought that to start in the business, I had to work in a salon and so I did. I remember being unhappy assisting and cutting hair every day from Tuesday – Saturday. I thought to myself, “didn’t I love hair”?! After two years in the salon and realizing no one was coming in for weddings and updos. I knew I had to leave and start a new chapter. I took a leap of faith, called my best friend, practically crying while I took my stuff out of the salon. And so I went with no wedding experience and no clientele at all.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I remember taking my first bridal hairstyling class and realizing Instagram was the way for me. I knew I had to completely change my Instagram and the work I was promoting. What was hard was the transition. First, telling my followers and potential clients that I was leaving the cutting and coloring world and going into the bridal industry. I remember looking at top hairdressers in the Industry and thinking, “what are they doing so right”?! Haha I started taking classes and continue to take classes with top stylists around the US. I hired a photographer to take professional photos of me and my work. I invested in an expensive camera. I think I just haven’t stopped practicing on my own craft. On my days off, you can still find me doing new styles I have never tried before.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I specialize in Wedding and event hairstyling. I wish I can express how I feel about hair. Hair has took me to places I would have never imagined from Chicago to doing a brides hair in Lake Como, Italy and winning a nationwide hairstyling contest with some of the most amazing hairdressers ever! I have great respect and admiration for an artist who turns their passion into businesses. That’s why I created @literallyido to showcase artists in the wedding industry here in Miami! Literally, I do is part of me and, therefore, part of my business. ❤️

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Proudest moment of my career so far is Winning a Nationwide hairstyling contest! Oh and Of course booking a wedding in Lake Como, Italy!
