Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofia Karam.
Sofia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started acting and modeling over four years ago. My boyfriend, Sam, had a casting for a huge commercial, and they needed someone to fill in for the other part since no one else was there to help. I ended up playing the other role for the casting, and we ended up booking it together! This opened so many doors for me and made me realize my passion for working and being a part of this industry. I will be graduating in just a few months with my Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast and Emerging Media Studies.
I am signed with several incredible Talent agencies here in Miami and have been able to work with some great brands and companies like Taco Bell, DSW, Pizza Hut, Telemundo, Univision, NBC, Olay, Amazon, etc.
Both acting and modeling have allowed me to grow on my Instagram account @sofikaram, where I am now considered an “Influencer.” I love talking about fashion, showing my outfits of the day, makeup, and my acting/modeling jobs. This is also a job/business that I have… it may not seem like it, but keeping up with Instagram and posts is a job within itself! It’s incredible being able to communicate and show your talents to the world through an app. I love being able to show the world and followers my journey.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I remember being told by those around me that I wouldn’t be able to book any jobs because there is so much competition out there and that it was going to be extremely hard, but I didn’t care. I know what I am passionate about, and nothing can get in the way of that. I’ve learned that you need to believe in yourself and work hard for what you want. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support from my boyfriend, Samuel Echavarria, and my family.
