Meet Dennis Bent of Whiteboard Productions in North Broward

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennis Bent.

Dennis, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started making short and funny YouTube videos with my friends but as we got older, we drifted apart and began doing different things in life. Things began to change but filming is something I knew wasn’t because no matter what I was experiencing, I knew I wanted to be involved with the making of film or TV, whether it was acting, directing, or writing.

As time went on, I began writing solo projects until I remembered I had a buddy (Noah Nordelus) from high school who is also passionate about film and TV. Noah and I got together, threw out all previous projects and formed Whiteboard Productions.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, it wasn’t smooth at all; I wasn’t sure how I wanted to enter the industry. I began with acting, doing auditions and applying for roles. After not receiving roles I was ready to give up and then I got an extra role in the Baywatch movie, I didn’t have a car so I couldn’t make it, I gave up acting at that point but then a lightbulb went off and I started thinking of roles or movies I can create for myself and that’s when things started coming together.

I started film school but got annoyed because we were paying for and being taught things I felt I already knew. After leaving school, I began researching every day on how to enter the film industry, how to format my screenplays, what genres or franchises major production companies were looking for so I can begin to work and get my foot in the door. The road has been smooth since.

Whiteboard Productions – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Whiteboard Productions specializes in writing short films, TV shows, and feature films. We eventually plan to launch media in sports, video games, sneaker reviews, etc. What makes me proud the most as a company is how creative we are, how we build on ideas or how we have so much ideas that we have to tell ourselves to slow down or postpone a few. We can look at objects or play with words and create entire movie or TV show ideas from them and I believe that sets us apart from others, we joke that we can create a movie in five minutes.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment has to be when I created the idea for a show I call “CirQuest”. It’s my biggest idea ever and a solo project for now. After watching and being a fan of HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” I felt as a writer, I must create something on that scale. What really makes me proud is that I have a lot of the story but still not half, knowing that I have a long way to go and more to add makes me believe it can be as big or bigger than Game of Thrones.
