Meet Ariel Martinez of Ariel Martinez Films

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariel Martinez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was playing football for FIU when I decided I wanted to create a highlight tape of my games. I picked up a new MacBook Pro and started playing around with iMovie. I fell in love! I went on to creating highlight tapes for my teammates at the time and got involved in my church’s media department. After a couple of years of creating videos for my church, a friend of mine gave me the idea of starting my own company providing video services. Upon talking to my mentors, I made the decision in 2013 to officially begin my video business. It’s been all hustle since then.

Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not smooth. I think every single step has had some sort of obstacle. From coming up with the name of my business (which has changed since then) to dealing with clients. Finding clients altogether is a struggle in itself. In addition, I think some of the toughest obstacles I have had to overcome and still somewhat have to get around these days is charging clients. When I started, I had the awful tendency of undercharging clients leaving me with a ton more work than I expected. I have grown and gotten better since.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am freelance videographer in the city of Miami. I specialize is documentary filmmaking. Following and telling stories through interviews, imagery, etc. I guess I’m simply proud to be able to make a living doing something that I truly and passionately love. Not many people can say that. That is also what sets me apart from others, the passion that I bring to each project allows my clients to have full confidence that my work for them will be handled properly because I work as if it’s my own project.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I believe Miami is a great city to start a business. You have a dense population and wide variety of national and international residents. Not to mention a great tourist location as well. Those factors alone make for a good location for a marketable business.
