Meet Brandi Thostenson of Village Shoppe and Yoga on Breakers in Fort Lauderdale Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Thostenson.

Brandi, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Three and half years ago, I moved to South Florida with my swimwear line – Brynja Swimwear (named after my Golden Doodle Brynja). Upon settling into this magical little place called North Beach Village, I had the amazing opportunity to follow my dreams and open a bikini shop selling my swimwear brand & accessories. In three years, we expanded our shop carrying more beautiful bohemian-inspired clothing, accessories, home goods & gifts. Our open & airy shop is all about spreading love, kindness and a happy life! We are carrying a number of local & handcrafted items our customers can feel good about supporting. We are devoted to making Village Shoppe the most delightful place to shop!

I also recently opened a boutique beachside yoga studio just a few feet from my shop. Our studio offers small intimate classes that allow you to really focus on your own practice. Space is illuminated by natural light, open & airy with a fresh zen-vibe! Village Shoppe & Yoga on Breakers has fueled my dreams and a true blessing to do something everyday I love so much!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Our main challenge is that we are in a seasonal area and somewhat tucked away, but every week we are getting more and more locals to discover our little hidden gems over here. We are big believers in word of mouth, so our marketing has taken some time, but our village is starting to really take off!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
What I love most about my businesses is our customers. We get people from all over the world, visiting our shop and studio. It’s such a joy to visit with other cultures and have them leave our studio feeling rejuvenated and our shop with unique items to carry back across the globe and share with their loved ones.

What were you like growing up?
As a kid, I always loved making and creating things. There was nothing I loved more than locking myself in my room and sewing up a family of dolls, clothing for mom, or designing something I could sell. I have always loved fashion, shopping and specifically swimwear. Since I was a little girl, I was obsessed with bikinis and would argue about wearing swimsuits even in the coldest of weather. I have always been a very determined and ambitious person from early on.
