Today we’d like to introduce you to Craig Wilson.
Craig, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Tailored Fitness was founded in 2012 by my business partner Kamal Cudjoe. He was a former college athlete who played soccer. After graduating, he decided he wanted to create a program that allowed him to help individuals in his community to reach their fitness goals. Kamal told me about his idea and I was on board from the beginning. After six months, I quit my full-time job and moved back down to Broward County from Orlando. Tailored Fitness started in the park with one member. That one member turned into five, and then five turned into ten and so on and so forth. We eventually decided that we needed to move into an indoor facility. Combining my business background with Kamal’s background in Fitness and training, we were able to negotiate our first lease. That, in turn, allowed us to add more class times and continue to grow. We eventually had so many members at our Lauderhill location. We had to rent a larger space to hold all of our members. Immediately after moving into a larger space, we had the opportunity to add our second location in Miramar. That is when we brought another trainer onboard by the name of Gregory Ojo. We were essentially able to duplicate the process we had in Lauderhill to grow that location.
After about a year of being open in Miramar we decided to expand our brand by opening a 1-2-3 Smoothie. A smoothie shop located right next door to our gym. With two gyms under our belt and our brand grows, we then again had an opportunity to open our third gym. This time in Davie, under a different name, targeting a different demographic. The name of this gym is called the Blitz 45. We were able to bring another trainer onboard named Joshua Mosley, who has become a great addition to our team. Currently, between the four of us, we are continuing to grow and help more people’s life fitter, healthier lifestyles.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road by any means. A lot of our challenges included just growing different locations. It took us time to really build our brand and establish ourselves in the community. Another major obstacle was learning to all work with each other. We would often all have different viewpoints on situations, but what has helped us to continue to grow has been the fact that we all have the same goals. Also, sometimes we have run into financial obstacles like any business, but each time we have been able to overcome.

Tailored Fitness is a group training facility that specializes in weight-loss and body toning. We have been in business for over seven years with three locations. We are extremely proud of the fact that we are able to provide an affordable program for people in areas that are in need of it. Our program is known for its huge Caribbean environment. We have been able to reach thousands of individuals throughout our time in business successfully, ranging from kids to adults. We create a family friendly atmosphere and pride ourselves on not just being your “typical” gym.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I absolutely feel like our city is a great place for gyms. People are becoming much more health conscious, looking for a variety of different options to improve their lifestyle. So whether it is a traditional gym or boutique studio, South Florida is the place to be.
