Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Cifuentes.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Andrea. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was always attracted by photography (my mom’s says since I was little) and as a graphic designer I always appreciated a good composition, but it was until 2010 when my daughter had 4 months old and I wanted keep every detail of her, so I started to buy a photographic equipment for that.
I’ve never had a professional camera in my hands before, I started like that, without knowing manual mode. I had to know the camera, how to get the most out of it, so I start studying photography at a professional level.
Between 2011 and 2015 I did some photo shoots in Venezuela (where I’m from) as a freelance, besides of my main job (graphic designer), but was until August 2015 when my husband and I decided to emigrate to USA, I saw the photography as my main job.
It has been difficult start over, but is a work that requires time, specially getting known by community as a family photographer and I’m working for that because I want to do this all my life, I love been photographer. It’s my dream job.
And now I can see truly sense to that phrase “in the most difficult times come up the best things”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Well, it’s been difficult and easy at the same time.
Let’s start for the easy part hahahaha, I love this, I love capturing moments, freezing the time, capture the best of the people, so I’m doing what I like and love. Right now besides my own photography business, I’m assistant manager in an important photography studio, in Wellington, Florida: so I feel lucky doing what I like, even without my name in the pictures, I’m photographing.
The hard part it’s get to the people, that people know Andeta Photography’s work, that’s the major part.
Definitely the language is an obstacle, I can talk with my clients, I make myself understand, and I can understand them (most of the time) but I want sound better, you know?
I have a lot more to learn, in every photo shoot I learn something that make me get better the next time and that’s why I’m not get bored of photography. Every client is different and every time I want something different for them.
Please tell us about Andeta Photography.
I get involved with my clients especially pregnant women and children, I am a mother of two wonderful kids and I know how a pregnant woman feels. I want to future moms under my lens feel comfortable, beautiful and happy.
My goal is those feelings to be reflected in the portraits that they will have forever. I want to be part of this beautiful and important moment that they want to immortalize.
Children… I love children of every age and they all have a charm and I try in every session to get the best of that age I photograph. But I have to confess that my favorites are newborns and I’m specializing in newborn photography. I love what I feel when I have a newborn baby in my hands, pose the baby, calm them, the patience that I have to have and finally the final product, their portraits, worth all.
And of course the family portraits, In a Family Session I’m looking that the integration between each member are reflected in the pictures.
Family is the basis of my work and I define myself as a Family Photographer.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Well I think every step that we do, for better or for worst give us experience for futures decisions, but if I talk with Andrea of 2011, definitely I would tell her that study english, and expend more time in the photography business in Maracaibo (Venezuela) portrait more your city and your people, you won’t regret it.
