Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Samuels.
Mark, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Mark Samuels and I am a filmmaker, director from Miami, FL. I started writing at an early age and had a successful career as a recording artist under the name of King Colosus. Due to my love of writing, I eventually transitioned from writing music to writing films. I began filming music videos and short films for a variety of hip hop artists in the South Florida area. After six years of creating music videos I decided to write, direct, and executive produce my first feature film.
I held a casting two years ago and went into production on my first film titled “Murder Gardens”. After many long production days and even longer post-production nights editing the film Murder Gardens was completed and picked up for an international distribution deal for a digital/DVD release. Murder Gardens is now playing on Amazon Prime Video, Fandango Now, VUDU and is currently trending as one of the most popular films on Tubi TV.
Has it been a smooth road?
It was definitely not a smooth road. Murder Gardens is a project that was self funded and definitely not on a Hollywood studio budget. That would lead to a small production crew where each member would have to wear multiple hats to get this film completed.
The cast consisted entirely of South Florida residents but most of our actors also had full-time jobs so scheduling of the casts, production crew and locations became difficult at times. With the help of our producers Daniel Deien and Ricardo Pradel, we were able to find ways as a team to complete the film.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I specialize in filmmaking primarily documentaries and feature films. What sets me apart from others is my ability to tell stories inspired but true events and take real-life scenarios and transform them into entertaining scenes on a television screen.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love the most about Miami are the culture and diversity. It’s one of the few places where on one block you can embrace Americans, Jamaicans, Cubans, Haitians, Bahamians, Puerto Ricans, Asians, etc. I love the pace of our city…. it’s a fast pace environment that is perfect for the creative mind. The sky is the limit in Miami.
What I like least about our city is the traffic!
