Today we’d like to introduce you to Julianne Noel.
Julianne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was raised in the non-profit world. My mom founded a children’s home which our family lived in caring for orphans and those in the child welfare system. She is the hardest working honorable person I know. This being said, I grew up with the mentality that I had to do “BIG THINGS” for God (art did not necessarily fall into this category). You know, it wasn’t until very much later that I realized the biggest thing one can do is being genuine to who you were created to be and I was created to be creative. Everyone’s path is unique and the world needs who you are. Your personal talents and capabilities are unlike any others. Even you here that I am writing to – it’s amazing work that you all do and you should be proud of the good stories you are sharing with the world.
Taking it back to when I was young I used to practice my letters on a mini-white board so that one day I could be a teacher who had the perfect handwriting for the big classroom whiteboard. I look back at that now and smile because it was the first step in my creative journey of being a lettering artist.
I have owned JNOEL now for three years and the growth has been incredible. I am extremely grateful for all the brides and luxury brands I have had the honor to work with. Every day I thank God for the opportunity to live a new day and create.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When you start something new you (most likely) will not be able to see the whole path. If you only see the one step in front of you, take it. Once you do, you may be able to see the next two, then you take those and so forth. After you have taken 12 steps you can look back and see the path has been unfolding beautifully ahead of you the whole time.
But that doesn’t mean taking the steps aren’t scary. It takes faith and that’s how it has been for me. One step, then the next.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in Modern Pointed Pen which is a fresh movement in the age-old art of calligraphy using the dip pen, ink, and pointed nib. I also create Modern Calligraphy using other mediums (Brush, Paint, Free-Hand Engraving and Ipad Lettering.)
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my favorite childhood memories was a tradition we had called “Celebration”. Every Friday my mom would pick us up from school we would name one thing we were celebrating from the week and get to have an ice-cream. If you couldn’t name something you were celebrating you would not get ice-cream so us kids learned pretty quickly haha.
It taught me to find celebrations in everyday life. I am very grateful for this tradition.
