Meet Subo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Subo.

Subo, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The story starts back as far as I can remember. I was born and raised in Hollywood for the first 15 years of my life until hardship hit the family (like most others coming up in the impoverished neighborhoods) and we were forced to move to Miami Gardens. There, I went to Miami Norland High, where I felt completely outcasted but knew some friends from around the way who made me feel at home then I eventually blended amongst the Miami natives as if I’ve always belonged. That’s when I knew I was meant to be something greater than what meets the eye. I’ve always played sports and had this big dream of being the next big thing coming from the south. Which was a no brainer due to my athleticism would happen but during my 11th grade school year something changed my direction and lit the flames to a passion that’s always been with me from birth, performing arts. Ever since I can remember, I’ve always had been artistic and had a very undeniable imagination. From drawing, painting murals in kindergarten, pastel arts, wet painting, and also winning 2nd place in the Water Conservation Art Contest at Orange Brook Elementary School in Hollywood.

Despite my raw talent and imagination, I’ve always put it on the back burner for sports just like they teach every young black man the way out the hood. But the music and the messages is what caught me. Who knew the project I did with my boy Dionte back in English during our 11th-grade year on “The Crucible” would ignite such hunger that leaves my belly unfulfilled? Or was it the fact I was going to be a father at the age of 18 the drive? Maybe it was both, but we did a freestyle to Waka Flocka’s “Hard In The Paint” and got an A+ by the way. Although, life’s been a battle since the start of my passion, I can’t say the same for Dionte who passed years ago. Along with some of my other friends from gun violence. I started from small-time studios with my bro Snapp (Meaning Dmoney’s closet paying $10 a song) which didn’t last long because my desire started growing and I couldn’t focus on anything more than to prosper, which inspired my company and brand. Coming from 757 Gang which was the original brand with a few of my bro’s from the hood. Years down the line, from the constant grinding to the projects and mixtapes, even going to SAE Institute to further my Audio Engineering comprehension to master my sound. I met up with who is more like a brother to me now Jordan The Hippie, brother of DJ Showtime and also a part of the Sniper Gang family then soon after I became a young sniper. After meeting him, we have been 2 peas in a pod. We have been doing our thing from promotion, marketing, hosting parties and events, but importantly networking with the right people which helped me get to this point of where I’m at right now. Two mixtapes and maybe 500 songs later, I’m releasing my first studio album late November of 2019 on all music platforms. It’s called “Ringo”, which is inspired by what my father and all his friends called me since a child. Never knew what it meant until I found out Ringo Starr actually was a part of the legendary Beatles band and from a bunch of Jamaicans drinking Pure white Jamaican rum made so much sense. Talk about life-changing and a huge shift of direction.

In conclusion, I’m still working on becoming the next big thing and never lost sight of the goal, to be “The Next Big Thing”.The vision is to let people know the reality which is that they are not alone in their everyday struggles and I speak for those who are unheard of my music. That explains the versatility of my sound in which everyone can relate to. In the near future, there will be fundraisers and givebacks to the people of the impoverished slums I came out of and also hope to bring change to the young people who need it. And I thank Voyage Miami for reaching out to me for my story.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road at all. Being independent and not signed to an actual record label has its cons. Working with people isn’t always guaranteed and most other artists or entrepreneurs aren’t always serious, hence trustworthy. So, I don’t ask for anything anymore. Failed video shoots, to relationships, and keeping my head above the wager financially can be really hard. Even balancing my personal and business life.

Please tell us about Prosper The Label.
Well, I’m an artist for the most part. But do specialize in marketing, promotions, mixing, mastering and recording engineering. I’m known mostly for being one of the most talented artists or promoters you can know. With a vibe that can change the whole building if you’re not careful. That’s what set me apart from the rest. Plus, I actually love what I do and I am proud of the growth that my company has endured these few years.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is the laughter I shared with the family friends that are no longer here.
