Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayscend.
Kayscend, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My name is Kayscend and I am a Puerto Rican half-raised in Brooklyn, NY half-raised in Goulds, Miami. Music has been my passion since I was old enough to speak. It’s my first love really. I began mimicking Mariah Carey at age five and I’ve never stopped singing since then. I’ve always admired the big belters like Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Aretha Franklin. I’m currently listening to Amy Winehouse and Frank Sinatra. I love making music you can feel.
Has it been a smooth road?
Pursuing music is not an easy task. My family always told me to focus on getting a “real” job. Not every person can understand what it feels like to have this hunger for something like music. It almost feels like you’re out of place doing anything else. When you make music for a career you always have doubters and most of those in my case are in my family. Music is my calling and I simply will not stop.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a singer/songwriter and I love singing Rnb/pop. I song write for other local singers and some all over the country. I am known for my soprano voice and my runs. Singing with emotion is what distinguishes a good artist from a great one.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I plan on starting my own recording studio so that I can record my own music at my own pace and shop it to other artists.
