Today we’d like to introduce you to Shantell Mcgriff.
Shantell, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well I started doing nails seven years ago after one of friends suggested I started from just playing around on her feet with polish, after a failed marriage, losing my home and being homeless and getting discouraged with trying to find a decent job I thought maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea lol, moving forward I actually got really good at it and was contacted by an event coordinator at Macy’s and started doing major events for them with nails, I have accomplished so much in the last 7 years from moving out the inner city with my children, going to school and becoming a licensed nail technician purchasing my dream car (Maserati), and the list goes on. Now I can’t picture my life without it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not!! It was actually one of the most difficult tasks I’ve ever had! Being self-taught from the beginning was very difficult especially with having no other knowledge with the craft but between YouTube and lots of practice, I got it together.
Please tell us about your business.
My business is forever 22 nails, it’s actually has a very symbolic reason behind the name, I initially started with nails and feet being $22 because I wanted to give clients a nice set without being too expensive because I vividly remember going to get my nails done whenever I had the chance but didn’t have much money ,and my very best friend died on our 22nd year of friendship I’m most proud of the fact that I actually build my name and reputation for doing nice nails for a less expensive price and believe or not I still have $22 sets till this very day I believe that’s what set me apart from the others.
