Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatyana Henfield.
Tatyana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started Mermaid Life Swim at twenty two. I always had a slight obsession with swimwear, the electric colors, cuts, how I would remake it to complement my shape until I finally did. The company has grown so much from those daydreams in my mind to sketch’s on paper into a lifestyle brand.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Far from a smooth road by far the most difficult! Building the courage to even pursue it was a challenge for me. Not knowing the first thing about a business plan, price points, overpriced seamstress, trademarks. I wanted to give up so many times just thinking I was way over my head with the challenges I faced. However, consistency is what kept me going, knowing that those same challenges taught me the business in and out from first hand experience.

Mermaid life Swim is a swimwear line but I aspire for it to be and it will be a lifestyle brand. Designing, shipments, creative directing, fabric shopping I do myself as the sole owner. Providing quality products transcending the dull mainstream standard swimwear into fun and daring styles that stand out in any crowd sets MLS apart from any other swimwear brand.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was always very shy, socially awkward and quiet. It wasn’t until high school I started to come into myself and out of my shell. I always had an interest in fashion, pop culture, decorating, planning, event coordinating pretty much anything that allows me to create. As for personality wise, now I would say I’m outspoken, optimistic, very comical I always find the joke in every situation.
