Meet Roya Siroospour of RoyaFit in Miami Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roya Siroospour.

Roya, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started in the fitness world when I was 13 years old, working at the front desk in a small gym in my hometown in Iowa. I always feel blessed to have discovered my passion at such a young age. One Saturday, the instructor didn’t show up in the morning for class and I taught my first-ever class at the gym. I knew then that this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life! I continued to teach there and shadow the owner. She was a female business owner and a trainer who used to mentor me and let me learn from her. At that time, there weren’t any female trainers. When I went to college, I studied exercise physiology knowing that I wanted to be an instructor/trainer. People told me it wasn’t a “real” career, and I was the only female in most of my classes. I continued to work in gyms in college and after that, I moved to Denver CO. In Denver, I started working at corporate gyms and climbing the ladder in fitness. Working in management eventually, I made fitness my full-time career. Training with athletes and ski teams, I fell in love with that. I loved managing group fitness and working with the athletes. Even then, I still knew that something was missing and that Denver wasn’t my right fit. I wanted to be somewhere more diverse where I could grow as a person so I chose Miami, packed a u-haul with no plan or money besides the car I sold, and went for it. Once I was here, I started working in corporate gyms again as a trainer and climbed up to being a regional fitness director. I was creating nationwide programming for corporate gyms, traveling to Central America, training instructors, and still, there was more out there.

After eight years, I worked up the courage to honor my passion and build my brand: RoyaFit. We launched in 2015. I established a luxury fitness concierge that does it all: personal training, hotel classes and events, privates, and more. It is a perfect compilation of all my experience and passion wrapped up into my vision. Going on our 5th year, I am grateful to look back on the journey to explore where it all began, where it is now, and where it will eventually be!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, definitely! I’m glad that I chose the road I did because it taught me everything I need to know up to now. Interestingly, all along I knew what I was meant to do, but I would let others’ opinions and judgments hold me back and tell me what was “best.” It took me a long time to get to Miami where I finally feel like this is home. Doing exactly what I want to do, free from corporations and limitations, I appreciate the not so smooth road that led here. What’s in my heart is what I get to do and be every day now.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career was tossing the safety net out the window and leaving a solid corporate job that paid well. Leaping into something that I wasn’t even sure the model of, trusting my intuition, and believing it would be the best/scariest thing I ever did!
