Meet Beyonka Simmons of Beyglammed in Miami Gardens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beyonka Simmons.

Beyonka, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started out doing rope twists at the age of 16 years old at my mom’s house, I was in high school didn’t have any job, didn’t have money, I didn’t have anything except the $20 a week my mom gave me for lunch money lol. Typically I’ll try and apply for jobs here and there but I just wouldn’t get hired and I always asked myself why can’t I get a job because I want to work and make money. Doing hair only on a Saturday, charging between $120-200 wasn’t doing a lot for a girl in high school who had needs and wants. Sooner or later I would start to do hair on Saturdays and Sundays to make double the money but I still needed to have time to do my homework. So fast forwarding to December of 2015 I started as an assistant for a hairstylist who was looking for an assistant that could help. I got the job and I was really happy about it because I love doing hair, it’s something that I have a passion for and would love to make a living out of it.

As the years passed I started to learn different styles, techniques, how to cut, style, curl, etc. I branched off on my own in 2017, my clientele wasn’t popping I didn’t have clients every day it was really slow for me. I started to give up because I didn’t think it would’ve been so hard to try to get your clientele up. It seemed and looked so easy but it wasn’t easy at all, it took some time for me to get myself out there in the hair industry. I dealt with a lot of things, people, and other things I would’ve never imagined myself going through. My clientele started going up, people started to come, I was getting acknowledged by my work. Things started to get better for me as time passed, all I had to do is remain humble and keep my faith high. Faith and putting my trust in God got me where I am today, without him I don’t know where I’ll be right now or where my business will be. I thank God a lot because it’s a blessing that I get to make people feel and look beautiful just by doing the hair. As of now, I’m still growing, doing more and learning more for all my clients and future clients.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Getting into the hair industry wasn’t smooth but it could be smooth only if you make it smooth. It will have some of its struggles as in trying to get your clientele up, starting up a brand, trying to get your brand out there to the world and for people to know who you are. Some people won’t trust you with you doing their hair because they don’t know how you work. It is tons of things that you could struggle within the hair industry.

Please tell us about your business.
I am a hairstylist that specializes in simple sew ins, frontals, wigs, closures, protective styles. I’m known for my closures and my symmetrical bobs. My bobs and my closures are what my clients like to come and get done. I’m so proud of my business because it makes me happy, it makes me feel so good about myself because I built a brand. What sets me apart from others is that when it comes down to business is strictly business nothing more, nothing less. I love my brand to the point I won’t let anybody take it from me, my brand is like my child.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success in many ways. My definition of success achieving goals that you’ve marked for yourself, doing whatever it is that you’re doing and making your mark. Success is something that everyone should be which in other terms is “Successful”.
