Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloe Chin.
Chloe, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started working as young as I can remember and at fifteen was working at the lovely hot topic, playing whatever music I wanted throughout the store and folding t’s with my best friend Angel. That was followed by a short stint at urban outfitters on the opposite side of Aventura mall. So I started assisting Wardrobe when I was still in high school during the summers. The year I graduated high school I got a call from a producer in LA named Ben Nurick who met with me in Miami and decided to give me a chance. He honestly must have been out of his mind cus I think back to what I must have looked like walking in that door, wearing combat boots blacked out eyeshadow and bright red hair, but he must have seen something in me and I’m forever grateful he did.
I worked on that show (South Beach Tow) for the next four years shooting eight seasons all over Miami Beach and learning more than I could even wrap my head around. I was dressing over 20 day players a week, shooting 12 hour days five days a week, and doing all the cold calling getting sizes, reading scripts, shopping and returning in a two day turnaround. It was absolute insanity and some of the most fun I’ve ever had. Our crew was a bunch of misfits from Miami and we were like family. After that, I started Freelancing and would get called often for different jobs, and have been thankful enough to be working on a slew of different projects ever since.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Most of my challenges were within myself outside of work. I got into drugs at a very young age and had a full blown opiate addiction by the time I graduated high school. I lost my first love to an overdose, and it only got worse from there. To say it was a challenge would be an understatement. Today I’m coming up on eight years clean and I’m unbelievably grateful for everything I’ve experienced so far. I believe that through our pain we grow and learn how to love even more.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Hmm. Good question. To me, success is being happy. Being able to do something I’m proud of and enjoy daily. Working with people I love, creating things I enjoy and making money while I’m at it. I always want to continue to grow and work more and more with amazing pieces. Those kinds of clothes that are literally just to die for and bring up so much excitement within me. That would be the goal. Working on all jobs where I die for the clothes because they are so bad ass.
