Today we’d like to introduce you to David Verjano.
David, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m proudly born and raised in Miami. This has always been home for me but it wasn’t until 2013, when I jumped into the world of entrepreneurship, that I truly discovered this city. My first few years out of college came with plenty of ups and downs, switching jobs more than I expected – naturally I opened myself to the possibility of freelancing and ultimately starting a company. By attending local events and getting closer to Miami’s creative community, I became even more passionate about my work and the people I began collaborating with. There are so many talented individuals down here. November marks four years of launching the agency. It’s been one hell of a ride thus far and I’m only excited for what’s to come.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I quickly realized that “smooth” isn’t part of the entrepreneurial dictionary. By taking the leap, you accept both endless possibilities for growth and infinite chances of failure. It’s truly a test of one’s will to weather the inevitable storms that come with landing clients, maintaining relationships and parting ways with some of them along the way. There’s also the struggle that comes with building a solid team. Finding potential partners, collaborators and employees is definitely a challenge, especially when you’re confiding your trust and reputation in their hands. There are tons of lessons to be learned from working alongside other professionals in the industry but when you find the right crew, magic happens.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Verjano Communications story. Tell us more about the business.
When we started the company, we focused on digital marketing – specializing in social media, website design and search engine optimization. Our bread and butter was in social media management for clients. We’ve worked with over 50 brands, managing and advising them in different capacities and are proud to have worked with clients like Jungle Island, The Wynwood Yard and Lincoln’s Beard Brewing. Over time, we’ve seen the value in building brands beyond the social-digital landscape. So we’ve evolved to higher level marketing strategy and brand design to building lasting partnerships with our clients to help them drive long-term growth. One of our differentiators is that we stray away from the traditional agency model. In fact, we thrive off collaborations with other agencies and freelancers. We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach, rather assembling a team that’s custom tailored and properly equipped for the project at hand. It’s how we’ve been able to grow and truly has made the journey much more enjoyable.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is something I don’t control, so I don’t spend time worrying about its impact on the company’s success. Whether it’s good or bad, I respect it for what it’s worth: An inevitable part of life. Has luck played a role in landing certain clients and making certain connections? Sure. But we make an active, conscious effort to be involved with the local community. It’s how we’ve been able to build our network and work with some of Miami’s most creative people.
