Today we’d like to introduce you to Marina Vogel.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Marina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a hairstylist from Germany & I’ve been working in the beauty industry since about 19 years. I owned a salon in Germany for more than eight years. Been traveling to the US since I was 20 years old and its been always my dream moving to America and opening my own Salon here in Florida! So I followed my dreams, saved up money, sold my salon in Germany and two years later, I moved to Sunny Florida with my two dogs in late 2012.
In 2013, opened my first salon in Lauderdale by the sea, but with the constructions it ended up like a nightmare and I decided to sell the salon after a few weeks I opened. I was slightly new in town, barely knew anyone and had to figure out where exactly I wanted to be. After I sold my salon and a few months of bartending, I decided I wanna go back to my passion which has always been HAIR. I worked for a few weeks in a Salon but couldn’t find myself working for someone else. It’s tough because I’ve been my own boss since I was 21 years old.
I went back on my own, rented a salon suite and after another year I opened up “again” my own cozy little salon in Ft Lauderdale. I grew my company, hired another stylist and after another year, in mid-2018 I decided to grow again and I moved to a bigger space in Flagler Village, Fort Lauderdale. This was the area where I really wanted to be. My boutique Salon has four stations and my employee Jenny has been with me since 1.5 years now. We are the perfect team! Now I’m trying to expand my team and growing a little bit bigger. One or two more stylists would be ideal! I don’t wanna have a huge salon, I wanna keep it simple & more private.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was a very rocky road. Lots of ups and downs. The constructions of my first salon were very hard and I had to deal with a lot of paperwork and permits.

At MaVo Hairlounge, we specialize in blondes, balayage & hair extensions. What sets us apart is, our salon is super cozy, the customers feel like they are sitting in my living room. It’s not like your typical salon. We are like a family with our clients.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Some bad luck needed to happen to learn from mistakes. Followed by a lot of good luck, my motto is EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON – You live & learn. I’m always a very positive person, even on a shitty day.
