Meet Miguel Espino of Mgsvisions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miguel Espino.

Miguel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a child growing up in New York City, graffiti and street art were everywhere. These styles captured my mind at a young age, and I began to draw every single day. Sometimes, I would even team up with classmates to draw together in school. This helped me better my craft since there were other kids who were better than me at the time. My family and I moved to Tampa, FL in the summer of 2005 and I entered my sophomore year in high school the following fall semester. Through the remaining years of high school, I honed my skills and I only met one other kid who could draw as well as I did, which was unusual for me as I was used to other kids drawing better than I did. I began to focus only on my art. I drew during class when I was supposed to be doing homework or listening to lectures.

The first time I heard the term graphic designer, I was ending my senior year of high school. I didn’t know much about it so I ended up going to community college not really having a solid grasp of what career I was going to pursue. All I knew was that I was going to draw for the rest of my life. As a young adult, I found myself in the middle of the Tampa underground art scene. I did several art shows and people started knowing my work. Around the age of 20, I enrolled at a private art school where I learned about graphic design and the difference between an artist and a designer. I learned that artists create based on their feelings while designers solve problems. With that knowledge, I focused more on becoming a designer more than being an artist. Solving creative problems became the only mission for me. I began creating logos for businesses as well as creating cover art for musicians and today, I am delving into brand identity and marketing strategies so that I can offer a more well-rounded experience for the clients that come to me looking for solutions.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. In my early twenties, I came across several people who saw the value in my work, and they wanted to team up with me to create different brands. Unfortunately, I didn’t pan out due to differences in our visions and goals. After several years of designing for local acts and businesses, I decided to turn this into my own business. Since then, the struggles revolve mainly around not knowing the industry as well as I’d like to. I also became a father to a little girl at the beginning of this year and its been a bit difficult to find the balance between working as much as I’d like to and spending time with my family.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mgsvisions – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I provide creative services. I specialize in logo design and brand identity. I am typically known for creating logos and cover art for musicians of all genres. As a company, I am most proud of the fact that my art is sought after and is respected by others in my field. I believe that my love for this craft and the desire to create designs that amaze clients is what sets me apart from others.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plan for the future is to have a successful business in which I can create for the leading businesses in North America.
