Today we’d like to introduce you to Sierra Fitzhugh a.k.a. Sierra Lane.
Sierra Lane, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Born and raised in Jupiter, FL. I started out singing in the school and church choir and was given my first guitar in middle school. I began playing by learning from instructional videos on YouTube. I then went on to join The School of Rock in North Palm Beach. I took a few months of guitar lessons there, and learned about music theory, My time at School of Rock is what made me realize how strong my passion for music really was.
In early 2018, I reached out to my friend Jakob Takos to act as somewhat of a music mentor for me, so that I can learn how to turn my hobby into a career. Jakob introduced me to people in the local music scene and taught me everything I needed to know about gigging, creating a brand for myself, and creating content. I started to post cover videos on my Instagram, and luckily I received a ton of great feedback and a few features on big pages such as Guitar Secrets and Musicians Daily.
As my audience grew, so did my confidence, With that, my songwriting started to take off. I wrote my first three songs within a few weeks, and soon I was performing in local songwriters showcases. Although I was a full-time Junior in High School, my passion was always music and performing. My gig schedule started to increase every month and I eventually started working with other musicians to perform as a full band, Because of the long hours and dedication that being a full-time musician requires, I am now enrolled in online school, with only a few classes left before graduation.
I play around 15-20 shows per month on average in South Florida, and recently started to record my original music. I have had a lot of great opportunities to play with so many successful, bands such as The Ries Brothers, Spred The Dub, and Kash’d Out. Regardless of the busy schedule, I make it a point to attend the AMP Open Mic in West Palm Beach every single Tuesday to connect with the amazing friends that I have made in this community.
I perform as a solo act or with up to a five piece band, depending on the venue, and play at locations anywhere from Boca, to Vero Beach, and hope to play on the West coast of Florida soon. I hope to have an EP released in 2020. My long term goal is to break into the reggae music scene with a sound very unique to represent who I am. My interest in the reggae industry is mostly driven by the large sense of community, passion, and acceptance.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The greatest challenge is finding a balance between work and leisure, especially being so young. Friends my age are going to parties and relaxing on the beach, while I spend a lot of time working, practicing, and writing. The more I learn and the more I grow, I know I’ll have an easier time managing everything at once.
Tell us more about your work.
I am a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, with a very strong work ethic when it comes to pursuing my career. I don’t ever wish to be confined to one particular genre of music. Although my first passion is reggae, my original songs have influences of indie, jazz, and pop as well.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
As of now, I am most proud of my personal growth and determination that has lead to the encouragement and affirmation from a lot of musicians that I have looked up to for so long. Positive feedback from my peers, especially from those who have found great success as musicians, gives me the confidence and motivation to keep growing and improving.

A truly unique talent with a natural ability to connect with her audience. Her songwriting reflects an older, much more mature soul. It will be a pleasure to hear more from this beautiful soul in the future! If you haven’t checked her out, do it! You’ll find yourself hooked as well!
