Meet Adam Lax

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Lax.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Adam. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
May 19, 1992 was a day that changed my life forever. As a result of a DUI manslaughter, I was sentenced to the ashes of incarceration for four years, two months and 11 days. Why did this happen? I was a lost young adult with the need to please everyone except myself. In 1988, I had studied to be a dietitian but did not pass my boards after college. I then worked in the restaurant business for the next four years. I wanted to stay in the food service end of the industry. I didn’t feel I had the skills to do clinical nutrition. Working in restaurants was much more interesting, especially with drinking and staying out late. I thought everyone fooled by hiding my addictions, but people were figuring it out. I was just in extreme denial; even after the accident. One thing had to change, everything! While facing the legal waiting game to move forward, my father convinced me to study for my boards to become a registered dietitian. It had been over four years since I studied or picked up a book. With hard work and support, I was able to pass the boards. Now, the real journey begins, do my time and get home.

Shortly after coming home from doing my time, I entered back into society. I asked myself, “who was going to hire a convicted felon? With that said, someone took a chance on me and I started working back in the dietetic industry at a nursing home and then for the next 15 years, worked in the acute care setting in hospitals. For someone who didn’t want to work in the clinical end of the industry, I keep saying, “be careful what you wish for! While on this clinical journey, I then met a lady with a child and a year later started an instant family. I now had a purpose in my professional and personal life. I felt I found that I had a “gift or blueprint to leave to the planet.

So, in 2007, I wanted to do more. I was experiencing the “Peter Principle” in my company, so I started my own practice part-time. When I left work every day from the hospital, I then worked in my business. Slowly, I built relationships which allowed for a great referral system. I saw I was making almost 50% of my salary, part-time. That was the proof of concept that I was ready to go out on my own. March 31, 2012, I jumped ship and RD4U was a full-time gig.

I have not looked back since. I have had the opportunity to help hundreds of people change their nutritional lifestyle and now extending my expertise and successful business practices to new and existing registered dietitian entrepreneurs. Looking back on that life-changing day, I do not regret my journey one bit and do believe that everything was supposed to happen this way. Here is to changing more lives ahead!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not, as mentioned, legal, marital, and personal addiction issues hindered my progress.
