Taylor, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The idea of Cle was born while I was living in New York and going to grad school. My skin was in bad shape and I wanted a place that was reliable and high-quality but more convenient and affordable than a traditional spa. I started thinking about how dermatologists recommend getting a monthly facial, however the options were so inaccessible, especially to a student like myself at that time. As I dug more and more, I thought that there must be a better way. I wanted to build an option that made professional skincare more attainable. An option that is nearby open late, affordable, yet still customizable to my skincare needs and with noticeable results.
Having previously lived in Brickell, I thought about how this concept would be well-received in the Miami market. Spa days are lovely, but most of us cannot allocate so much time, money, and effort to that on a monthly basis! In January 2019, we opened our spot in Brickell and expanded six months later to Coral Gables.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road — I don’t think starting a business is ever easy! One struggle has been getting people to realize that skincare is something that takes consistency. I compare it to going to the gym. You can’t go to the gym a few times a year and expect to be very fit. As with most things, changing your daily and monthly routine is when results can best be seen. Now with Cle, incorporating a professional facial as part of your monthly routine is far more feasible.
Another struggle we experienced is increasing brand awareness in a market with so many options. When it comes to beauty, Miami is certainly not lacking. Getting the word out and gaining the credibility has been a challenge, but one that I’ve loved. We have so many amazing reviews and positive feedback — seeing that grow has been rewarding.
Please tell us about Cle Facial Bar.
We specialize in facial treatments only. We are known for high-quality facials at an affordable price. At Cle, we remove the fluff of a traditional spa and focus on skin results you can see and feel. Our products are of high-caliber and organic-based. They look, feel, and smell divine, and frankly are used at some of the fanciest spas around. Furthermore, our estheticians are experienced and knowledgeable. They are skin obsessed and take pride in their work. In fact, I feel exceedingly grateful for our team. The service and care they provide to clients is truly special, and that’s what I’m most proud of.
What role has luck had in your life and business?
Starting a business is always challenging. I feel lucky to have met amazing local business owners that have shown support for Cle even during its early start-up stage. Some of the partnerships we have formed have been with well-known, successful South Florida brands that I admire. These relationships begin professional but the support I feel from the community of like-minded business owners has become personal for me. I can’t help but feel that luck plays some role in these meaningful connections.
