Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Villegas.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Five years ago I came to US from Venezuela with my husband and my two girls pursuing a better future for our girls. I started working at a cattle ranch, this has been the family business for decades, I Loved doing my job but unfortunately I was spending too much time away from my girls and I was missing important stages of their lifes. So I decided to quit after three years working as a Cowgirl and I became a Full-time Mom, but because of my personality it was very hard being home without working. I needed to find a way to be busy and find My Passion but having the time to take care of my girls and be part of their development.
I always baked my girls birthday cakes but they weren’t anything fancy just a simple vanilla cake, because as crazy as it sounds I never liked to cook, but One day I decided to take a two days baking workshop at home with a very close friend and since that moment my KitchenAid hasn’t stop!!!! I found a new way to express myself through my creations. I started to bake just for practice and to create content for my page and it just started to flow !!! Suddenly I was receiving orders every weekend.
In this path I found a passion for Royal Icing Decorated Cookies, it doesn’t mean I don’t do any other dessert or baked product, is just every time I start to decorate a new set of cookies is just like magic I can express my feelings, my mood and when I finish the set I cannot believe I was able to do that creation. Every cookie is a custom design and every set is unique and different, I can spend days and nights decorating the cookies without getting sleepy or tired. It just makes me fill so grateful and so full of joy that my clients trust me, and my skills, to be part of their celebrations or events.
I like to use different styles and techniques, bright colors, different elements to make every creation fun and chic, I always say that different is My Style !!!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Noooo, it has not been easy. In my particular case the most difficult thing has been trying to be a full-time mom and be there for my family and my girls every time they need me, but without stop following my dreams and goals of making my brand and business successful.
What should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My most popular, and best seller product are the Royal Icing Decorated Cookies, and the Cakes and I believe it’s because every creation is done with love and devotion, as cliche as it sounds!! When you give your heart and your love in what you do everything comes out perfectly and I LOVE being a Baker/Cookier…
I believe that what sets me apart from the other bakeries is that every creation I make is different and unique, and also the fact that I always treat my clients as family, the most important thing for us is that our clients are satisfied with their products and that we even exceed their expectations.
Every order is a new history for me and I want to show my clients, through my creations, the appreciation for trusting my brand their special event or celebration. I want my clients to remember that special moment as a Sugary Time!!!
I’m very proud of our brand and the achievements we have accomplished until now, we have mail cookies as far as Okinawa, Japan and that just make me feel extremely grateful and happy!!!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
This is such a good question I have so many plans with Sugary Times that I don’t even know where to start but one of the things I really want is have our Store Front Bakery with a studio to offer workshops for kids and adults, and to have our products displayed and available for our clients!!
