Meet Vic Garcia of VGA Studios in Coral Gables

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vic Garcia.

Vic, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It was as a business student in Boston, searching for a suitable path and no interest in art, that VGA was discovered. What started as pen and marker drawings on copy paper quickly evolved into a whole world populated by an overflow of characters I created. Using my art to express things I never could with words, my freestyle work and newly realized passion soon began to infest my room from walls to beneath the bed. Everyone, from my friends to guests wanted to take a piece of VGA home with them, but it wasn’t until after college when I went to work for my dad that it became obvious that art had completely taken over my life. Lost in the world I created, I made the decision to go full-throttle into what came so naturally to me.

Has it been a smooth road?
In life, there’s always going to be bumps in the road and those challenges have made me who I am today. I would not call it a struggle, every day, I am learning something new about myself and that is what inspires me. I am inspired by my day to day life and the people I come across. As an uncle of 10, kids are the main inspiration for me. A teacher once told me to stop doing stick figures, and that’s why I do them, in honor of that teacher. Children can #DreamBIG if they put their mind, passion, and devotion towards what they love. Kids are the future and I am motivated to #InspireTheYouth any chance I get. Every time my paint touches a canvas, wall, or paper I have a vivid intention of what I want to share with the others. I want people to connect with my world, disconnect from the crazy world we are living in and reconnect with their inner child. Today, my ability to bring good vibes and happy people into #VGAWorld stimulates my heart and passion into expanding on what I love.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the VGA Studios story. Tell us more about it.
Expressing myself through art is my passion and what brings me joy. Every piece, whether it’s a canvas or a mural is made up of characters who all contribute to spreading good energy and good vibes throughout their space. #VGAWorld is another dimension and the place where all my work lives. One day, I had a thought that my characters can be turned into toys and statues and it suddenly became clear these were more than just paintings. I have a newly discovered love for designing apparel with my art as well, which led me to establish VGA Studios. I am most proud of opportunities that give back to the community especially a chance to #InspireTheYouth, our future leaders of the world. Thank you to Friends of St. Jude Miami, Always Believing Foundation (Boys and Girls Club Miami Dade), The Kids of District 9 Harlem, Dominoes for Kids, K.E. Art for Kids, Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, KBCS, Make A Wish America, Team Nat Foundation, Style Saves, Amigos for Kids, Big Brothers Big Sisters Miami, Sun Risas, Unlitter Movement, Art Po Foundation, B.A.M. Foundation, Renaissance School of the Arts, Kiwani of Little Havana, and the Manny Alvarez Foundation for allowing me to follow my dream. Imagine a world where there are no superiors, no discrimination, and no judgment, and that’s the world I have created. All good things are welcomed here!

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were just starting out?
I wouldn’t change a thing. I didn’t think art would lead to my happiness but it’s what came naturally to me. People could say I should’ve gone to school to be an artist, I just always feel that if my path were any different, I wouldn’t be where I am today. There is always room for growth and I am ready to see where #VGAWorld takes me.
