Meet Takarra Carter of Hot Sauce Shero in North Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Takarra Carter.

Takarra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hot Sauce Shero started as an idea for a pineapple hot sauce for at-home use. I ended up making a pineapple-flavored hot sauce and a peach hot sauce at the same time. I took samples of them both to my then day job to let a coworker try them. She loved both and said I should let more coworkers try it. The feedback was great and also constructive. One of them said I should bottle and sell my hot sauces as a business. It took about a year to perfect the sauces, to learn the bottling process and to save money to start what is now known as Hot Sauce Shero. On July 14, 2018, we had our grand opening so we recently celebrated our one year anniversary in business!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This hasn’t been a smooth ride at all!! I’ve been bumping my head and my toes along the way. But, I’m learning to accept the obstacles because I always learn and become better through the challenges. The main challenge has been me not knowing what I’m doing… at all, all the time. Meaning, I didn’t know how to make hot sauce, I didn’t know how to run a company, I didn’t know how to market a company, I didn’t know how to finance a company, I didn’t know anything. I just had a dream. Everything that I’ve accomplished thus far has been because I failed my way into that success because I refused to give up. Period.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Hot Sauce Shero story. Tell us more about the business.
Hot Sauce Shero is a brand of flavored hot sauces. We currently have four original flavors (peach, pineapple, lychee, and guava) and 1 summer seasonal flavor (mango). I am most proud of the fact that Hot Sauce Shero is a complete experience for our customers. The sauces are amazing but we also treat every customer like family, rather they come to one of our festivals to purchase or if they purchase online. Our customer service is top-notch and I personally pride myself on our customer satisfaction rate. That’s a huge part of what sets us apart, but we also offer gourmet quality hot sauces that are all-naturally flavored and are actually packed with heat at the same time.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I can foresee more and more people being open to the world of hot sauce. There are so many variations of hot sauces out there that there’s literally something for everyone. In the next 5-10 years, I can see more people carrying hot sauce with them as a “just in case” like chapstick, lol.
