Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Carbajales.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started doing hair around 9 years ago. It all started because I’ve been working on the family business (hair salon) since I was 15 years old. My father has been a well-recognized hair dresser for a long time and I wanted to give it a try.
After learning about every position a hair salon can offer, assistant, front desk, shampoo guy, manager, between others, I decided to try the hair styling.
At the beginning, it was challenging, but everything my father and his wife taught me, became easier and easier with time until it was coming natural.
Of course, I went to school and all that, but my base was taught at my father’s salon.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I believe there are no smooth roads along the way, but I wouldn’t call them struggles either. The easiest part of this journey has been that the skills have come very natural, like if they run in my blood. The harder part has been the long hours you have to dedicate to the industry in order to be successful.
Any other stylist reading this will probably agree that going all day long without lunch or being standing the whole day is not an easy task, but when you truly love what you do, you just don’t realize you’ve been standing all day long.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I started my own brand, AleJr Salon in October of 2015. We are a full hair salon that is recognized for the haircuts and color in general.
We are very proud on the acceptance we have had in the area. We have people coming pretty much from everywhere in the tri-county area.
I believe people not only appreciate what we do on their hair but they also love how we make them feel while in the salon.
What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been a shy person, but my line of work has taught me to me more outgoing.
I grew up in a hair salon watching my father work, so I adopted a lot of techniques and the way of being with the clients.
I’ve always liked the ocean, so when I need some inspiration, I go to the beach to relax and ideas will start flowing through my head….
