So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After 12 years working for the Colombian Government Trade Office-PROCOLOMBIA in Miami assisting Colombian brands in their strategies to enter the US and Caribbean markets in the Fashion sector, I found myself as a wife and mother of two who decided to embark on my own journey to build a Shoe brand out of personal need and passion for comfort-fashion. As an empiric designer finding unique textures and combining them with artisanal techniques is what gave life to the designs that SILVIA COBOS (Formerly VIDALeather) has been putting in the US, CARIBBEAN, CENTRAL, and SOUTH AMERICA markets since 2014.

SILVIA COBOS is a Women’s shoe brand based in Miami, FL and Manufactured in Colombia, inspired by movement and daily challenges which offer a comfy-chic hand-made alternative to footwear with the perfect balance between quality and comfort at affordable prices. The handcrafted details + unique textures and materials deliver a Shoe that’s incredibly light and soft to the feet
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a rollercoaster, some days and weeks are great, some are a bit rockier! But such is everything in life… the hardest part has been trying to figure it all out especially at the beginning when you don’t have much help and you assume every possible role in the company to try and solve things out!
Starting a company and making it stand for itself in the early stages when there is not much income coming in is tough… important thing is to hold… keep it up, stand straight and strong with a clear vision of where you want to get and survive the self-doubt and stress, with confidence that all the hard work will bring its rewards.
Please tell us about SILVIA COBOS (Formerly VIDA LEATHER).
We are a Women’s Shoe Brand that is characterized for its handmade details. Our shoes are manufactured in Colombia, South America, where I was born, however, our company and distribution center is based in Miami. Our Styles are known for their comfort, quality, and design while keeping them at an affordable price.
We constantly strive to find the best and most innovative quality materials mixed with handcrafted techniques so that you really wear a unique piece. Comfort has been my obsession, I can not deal with shoes that are not comfortable and I believe we all deserve to have a pair of good comfy shoes, In the end, it is our feet that take us places!!! that’s why we often use the hashtag #InYourFeet because we are always thinking about how we can help women move freely and chic through their challenges in today’s Super multitasking world.
Our designs are embellished with pompoms, fringes, embroidered and beaded details that help comfortable shoe forms transform into real design pieces for our clients.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Right now, we are very focused on expanding our wholesale operation, Currently our shoes are being sold in boutiques and multi-brand stores in FL, Texas, Tennessee, Illinois, Georgia, North Carolina and internationally in Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Panama, Costa Rica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, London and Colombia, as well as online www.silviacobos.com. We recently changed the name of the brand from VIDA LEATHER to SILVIA COBOS which is my name, to support our expansion to complementary categories in the near future such as Handbags and belts, also to allow for use of other materials that are not necessarily leather.
Pricing:
- Most of our shoes are under $100
- Our average price point is $80 for shoes that are handmade, with accessories and ultra-soft leather innersoles and inner lining
