Meet Lexis Faison of The Spill: Sip N’ Spill in Miami Gardens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexis Faison.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lexis. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My love for the arts has been something that has been with me since I can remember. No matter what it was or who it was ‘Ive always been able to point out the art within. My family is a family full of creatives – whether it be in the field of performing arts, drawing, design-fashion, or writing someone had a talent. As for me, I discovered that I had a few. From spending my youthful summers at The Cultural Arts Center is involved in the Photography program, taking classes full of sketching, walking across a stage to model a piece that a fellow peer created to standing directly in the spotlight to recite a monologue that I personally created. For years I’ve grown within my art as far as poetry/spoken word is concerned. Creating “Sip N Spill” has been my biggest joy, its something that I’ve prayed upon. Sip N’ Spill is an event, its a place where artist of all kind can come and spill out their hearts to us and we welcome it with open arms.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing is ever as easy as it looks and I’m pretty sure there’s more to come. Trying to put this all together and continuously grow will always come with an obstacle, no matter how far I get but I will continue to push through each and every challenge because the outcome is always as beautiful as the vision. Each and every step is a chance to grow, a chance to learn something. There’s is never a time when creating that you’ll have it all figured it out and that alone should always motivate you to keep going.

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am an Artist before I am anything else. The Spill: Sip N Spill is what I’m currently known for outside of me being a poet. As long as I can give any artist a safe place to share their art, I will always be proud of what I am giving out into the world. The thought came about simply from being the shy poet who named herself “Corner Artist”, the poet who chose to write and post anonymously until I realized that there have to be others just like me who need a safe place, someone who needs somewhere and someone to simply just listen without judgment.

What’s your outlook for the industry over the next 5-10 years?
I plan to own my own Cafe styled lounge. Somewhere that’s never done growing just like an artist. To travel across the states to share this with others outside of Miami would be amazing.
