Today we’d like to introduce you to Amarii Usher.
Amarii, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Ever since I was about 8 or 9, I’ve always wanted to be some type of artist. I started drawing in elementary, all the way to middle school. I found a love for music in the 8th grade so I started rapping. In high school, I was known to be a rapper as I was always “freestyling” in front of a crowd. I took it seriously all the way to my senior year when I first started making videos. I started making videos to promote my music more but as the months went by, the videos overpowered the music. I slacked off writing songs and I started writing skits and rants. My inspiration came from watching Spoken Reasons & Tre Melvin. I never realized how funny I was until people started mentioning it to me, which is crazy. Making regular videos & skits was just a start for me, I wanted to make actual films. So, I wrote my first short film at the end of 2014, I got my first camera, got the cast for the film and I made it happen. Released it Jan. 2015 and received so much good feedback. I had some criticism as well but, I definitely need that at the time. I still made skits throughout the years and I started involving my friends into these skits so they could get some type of recognition as well. I created my first web series called “30 Reasons” around Jan. 2016. Released it in the summertime and it failed, unfortunately. The failure didn’t come from the viewers but it came from the cast. There was a misunderstanding between cast members so continuing it for Season 2, wasn’t going to happen. I didn’t want to make another web series until I found a reliable cast who took it just as serious as me. To take a break from what I wanted for 30 Reasons, I made a mini-series called “If Kid Flash was from the Hood” around May 2017. It was a success but the miniseries had to be cut shorter than expected. So, in August 2017, I made the spin-off called “30 More Reasons” and that definitely blew up. I’m currently working on the second season for it and overall, this creative journey for myself… definitely feels like a journey. That’s the best way for me to sum it up.
Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing about this road was smooth! Dealing with people who you trust to help your projects come to life, not really wanting to help. Seeing everybody’s true colors, having people flake on you when it’s time to record, this was not a smooth road. There were plenty of times I wanted to give up but I can’t let one person or a group of people stop me from doing what I love. Another struggle is timing. Timing everything in the way YOU want things to go, will never work out. Especially if you’re low on budget. So, that’s something that I have to keep telling myself. But honestly, I’m still going to push myself to keep going because, in the end, it’ll be worth it.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am a YouTuber, Actor, Director, Editor, Photographer & Graphic Designer. I’m highly known for being a YouTuber. Not a famous one yet. I’m proud of the drive that I have for film, I know there are many people doing the same thing that I’m doing but I always go that extra mile to do something that barely anyone else knows. What sets me apart from others; My creative ideas and my dedication. The ideas and plot twists that I have for my current projects and future projects, you probably never heard of or seen before. That’s the extra mile that I try to take when it comes to my work. I don’t feel like I’m the best but I’m surely headed to be the best. My dedication for what I do is unbelievable because of what I went through and still going through as far as dealing with certain people, seeing others blow up before I do, but it’s nothing to be mad at. Anyone with a creative mind will have setbacks. I don’t want the journey to be too easy for me.
How do you define success?
I define success as being humble and doing things you couldn’t do before, in a positive matter. Understanding where you came from, not throwing success in other people’s faces. Still taking constructive criticism as something you can learn from. Success doesn’t mean stop learning. Learn as much as you can because you’ll think you know so much about what you’re successful in but really, there’s a lot more to know. I’m always looking to learn something new, that’s the best part about wanting to be great. You can’t be great if you’re not constantly learning.
