Meet Octavio Rios of Code305 in Hialeah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Octavio Rios.

Octavio, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all began while working at WVUM (UM college radio), when I experimented with having an idea for a show. I honestly did not have a set vision in mind, I just knew I had to create a show that everyone could enjoy. After consulting with an executive board member about a talk show, she suggested I pursue what Code305 is today. A talk show where I invite guests from the city of Miami to discuss social, political, or economic issues facing the city. Through my time having the show, I ended interviewing individuals like Billy Corben, Theodora Thompson, Jannel Gomez, and many more!

Has it been a smooth road?
I believe the show ran smoothly, only struggles I faced were having to deal with leadership that did not advance the station’s potential.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I specialize in providing the perfect mixture of information and entertainment to an engaged audience. I am as informative as an NPR, but pitch it to you in an entertaining way like the breakfast club. As a show, I was most proud of being able to provide a platform for the average person to come speak on. I capture the voices that consist of the city of Miami because I feel only those with exclusive access get to exercise that ability. In other words, anecdotes from beyond South Beach got to let everyone know about the “real Miami.” Aside from my age, and unique radio voice this is what set me apart from everyone else in my lane.

What’s your outlook for the industry over the next 5-10 years?
I see my industry continuing to evolve and remain relevant. Communication comes in many shapes and mediums, but the act alone will remain a crucial part of the human experience. Streaming will get bigger, and the chance for everyone to enjoy their 15 seconds of fame will remain. The age of technology we currently live will continue to change society and the way we interact with one another.
