Conversations with the Inspiring Tiffany Ellington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Ellington.

Tiffany, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started Natural Ting almost two years ago now and the growth has been tremendous. “Natural Ting” was created to inspire women. I wanted to create a brand that pushed a different standard of beauty, a natural standard. In today’s society, there is so much pressure to obtain an unrealistic look and that in turn creates insecurities that I want to help eliminate. The brand is bigger than the clothing, the clothing just helps push the message. In a short time, I have been able to connect with women on a different level. I have been able to inspire a different kind of confidence. I have been able to promote change and that is the best feeling for me. Women put on Natural Ting and go about their day with conviction knowing they look amazing just the way they are. I have just started this journey and can not wait to see where we, the Natural Ting family, take it from here.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not always been smooth. I had to learn to adapt on the way. One of the biggest challenges was funds! I had the idea, but not the money to move forward. I took a risk and didn’t pay my bills in exchange for starting my dream. Now, I don’t recommend this to everyone, but the point is if you want something, go for it! I noticed that every decision comes with a sort of obstacle and trying to please everyone is something that certainly can’t be done. Another challenge was to stop listening to others opinions. Your own vision is enough! Input can be helpful sometimes, but not everyone will understand your end goal. My advice to young women is to just get started! Don’t think too much: just do it! Our fears are the only thing that stops us from greatness

What should we know about Natural Ting? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Natural Ting is a clothing brand. We have all sorts of clothing, but the most popular, right now, is our swimwear. We provide simple pieces that accentuate the woman body. I’m proud of the fact that women put on the Natural Ting apparel and feel good, not about the clothes, but themselves. Just like any big brand (I like to think of Natural Ting as a big brand), our marketing sets us apart. We promote women of all ethnicities, shapes, hair types, etc. Natural Ting does not photoshop their photos or over edit and we use real women! What you see is what you get!

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I believe one of the biggest barriers in female leadership is respect. A lot of times, women are looked at to assist, not manage. I’ve learned to just stay quiet and continue to manage my business. As time goes on, the people who didn’t respect me before, so now. Staying consistent and continuing to provide a growing brand that people follow goes shopping that I am not just an assistant, but a leader. I am someone to follow.
