Meet Chad Bailey of Shin Wellness in Design District

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Bailey.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Chad. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a child, I loved martial arts, tae kwon do, karate and kung fu. I was accepted into the advanced kung fu class at my school in my early teens. My instructors felt I was too young to get my black sash (black belt) so they added requirements of learning healing mostly massage and acupressure to be practiced on injured students. I hold black belt (or equivalent) in eight styles: 4th Grade black belt in Cacoy Doce Pares Eskrima, a 3rd-degree black belt in American Kenpo, a 3rd-degree black belt in Cadena de Mano.

After receiving my undergraduate degree in Exercise Physiology from Temple University, I chose to go to graduate school to study Chinese Medicine/Acupuncture since I already had some basic skills. It turned out that my kung fu teachers had taught me the majority of the theories and practices of Chinese Medicine with the exception of herbology.

Upon graduation, I moved to Miami to apply my trades of Martial Arts and Healing in 1995. I began teaching Chinese Medicine at the Southeast Institute of Oriental Medicine (now the Acupuncture & Massage College). In 2001, I began to work for Shin Wellness as their acupuncturist. I have been working happily with Shin since then!

When I’m not at Shin, I’m traveling to teach students all over the United States and aboard. I’m a published author with numerous articles. YouTuber with many videos. Books are on the way!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Constant challenges…
School was always academically easy but when I chose majors which my dad did not approve, I had to come up with ways to pay for school myself (mega loans and a job).

My father passed away the year I graduated from undergraduate school. Difficult year!

My first two businesses in Miami failed… mostly due to rampant corruption.

Miami is a constantly changing market. You must adapt.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Shin Wellness – what should we know?
There are two sides to my work:

Teacher- I teach martial arts (Tai Ji Quan, Progressive Arnis, Kuntao Silat) and Chinese Medicine. I love to teach!

Healer- I work on “any and all” health concerns for patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics and everything in between. It’s all about balance! I use the tools of acupuncture, tui na massage, herbs, foods, qi gong exercise & meditation and Taoist philosophy to promote health and wellness in my patients.

My knowledge, experience, and ability to articulate these which set me apart.

How do you define success?
I ask myself three questions:
1) Am I accomplishing my goal? Yes, success!
2) Am I helping others? Yes, success!
3) Am I happy? Yes, success!
