Today we’d like to introduce you to Roddy Colon.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my barber career on the island of Puerto Rico in 1992 at the age of 16. In 2009, I started making my way in to the Miami market. Being a traditional Barber with modern tendencies I took some time before I got traction, but once engaged It was full gas.
RTGT | MIAMI HQ opened in March of 2013 as the first private by appointment only barber shop in the southwest Miami area. With exclusive online appointments as the only way to secure your slot in the high demand one man studio.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Miami being such a diverse city really enabled me to fulfill my vision, all thought it is not as high pace as other major cities there was a gap between what people needed and what was out there for them. I bridge the gap with determination and consistency.
Other than the educational part it was smooth sailing… and still today after six years people are surprised about how incognito we stay and about our system… but all in all it’s been an amazing ride !!
RTGT MIAMI INC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My specialty? My specialty is called LIΛЁD•IN•MЁNS•H∀IR it’s a style that was organically developed over the years, I’ve always been an artist that cares more about what the guest takes with him and not my creativity agenda for recognition. I offer solutions I offer men’s hair that you can live freely with.
Look as professional as you can at work, as hip as you when you are at leisure. And relaxed when you want to without the compromise of heavy product or procedures.
In definition LIΛЁD•IN•MЁNS•H∀IR is hair that goes where it wants to go jet looks great, the personalization is the KEY, it connects what I do with SKILL in use, with what the client wants in LOOKS, and the natural environment as it goes to the wild.
Is there a specific memory from when you were younger that you really miss?
Related to my line of work, it would be sitting in this chair of my grandfather’s barber and having him offer me a giant two dollar bill that he had on the wall for me to stay still.
And I quote his words “If you stay still I’ll give you that big two dollar bill, THE NEXT TIME YOU COME… do you imagine everything you come by with a two dollar bill that big” lol. Every other great memory has to do a race in my Bicycle.
