For Meloddy Gorrochotegui, style is far more than trends or aesthetics—it’s a powerful psychological tool. Through her work centered on Enclothed Cognition, Gorrochotegui helps women understand how what they wear can shape their confidence, energy, and presence. Inspired by her own experiences, she now teaches this concept through styling work and workshops, guiding women to see their wardrobes as a daily tool for empowerment. By focusing on self‑understanding first—body, lifestyle, goals, and identity—she encourages women to dress with intention and reconnect with a version of themselves that feels authentic, confident, and fully expressed.
Meloddy, as a personal stylist, much of your work centers around the concept of Enclothed Cognition. What first drew you to this idea that the clothes we wear can influence our mindset, confidence, and the way we show up in the world?
What first drew me to this idea was actually experiencing it in my own life. There was a period where I was going through a difficult time mentally and emotionally, and I didn’t always feel like the best version of myself. But I noticed that on the days I intentionally got dressed in clothes that made me feel put-together, expressive, and aligned with who I was, something shifted internally. Even if my mindset wasn’t fully there yet, my energy changed. I felt more productive, more motivated, and more capable of showing up for my day. That experience made me realize that clothing isn’t just about appearance, it has a direct impact on how we feel and how we move through the world. Later on, when I learned about the concept of enclothed cognition, it gave a name to something I had already experienced. It confirmed what I had felt firsthand: that the clothes we wear can influence our mindset, confidence, and behavior. That realization became the foundation of my work as a stylist, helping women use clothing not just to look good, but to feel empowered.
Many people think of style purely in terms of trends or aesthetics. How does understanding the psychology behind clothing change the way women approach getting dressed each day?
When women understand the psychological power behind clothing, getting dressed becomes much more intentional. It stops being just about trends or aesthetics and becomes about energy and identity. Instead of asking, “What should I wear today?” they start asking, “How do I want to feel today?” or “Who do I want to show up as today?” Clothing becomes a tool for shaping mindset and energy. When you realize that your outfit can influence confidence and presence, you begin dressing with purpose for the energy you want to embody and the version of yourself you’re stepping into. We often hear the phrase, “Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.” But I believe this applies to much more than your career. It applies to our personal lives, our growth, and the way we show up for ourselves every day. When women shift their perspective this way, getting dressed becomes an act of self-belief and self-love.
You’re now expanding your work by offering both in‑person and virtual workshops on Enclothed Cognition. What inspired you to begin teaching this concept in a workshop setting?
Through my work as a personal stylist, I started noticing that many women weren’t struggling with clothing itself, they were struggling with confidence. So many women don’t realize that the clothes in their closet can actually be a powerful tool for building self-esteem and empowerment. Studies even show that around 80% of women struggle with low self-confidence at some point in their lives, which means only a small percentage feel truly confident in themselves. Seeing this repeatedly in my work inspired me to expand beyond 1:1 styling and begin teaching workshops on enclothed cognition. I wanted to create a space where women could understand the deeper connection between style and psychology. These workshops are about more than fashion. They’re about helping women recognize that the way they dress can influence how they think, how they feel, and how they show up in the world. My goal is for every woman who attends to walk away realizing that her wardrobe can be a daily tool for confidence and self-empowerment.
Through your styling practice, you help women build wardrobes that feel aligned with who they truly are. What kinds of transformations do you typically see when someone begins dressing in a way that reflects their authentic identity?
One of the first things I notice is their smile. When a woman sees herself in clothing that truly reflects who she is, there’s a moment of recognition and almost like she’s reconnecting with herself. After that, the physical transformation naturally follows. Their posture shifts, their body language becomes more confident, and they carry themselves differently. It’s subtle, but incredibly powerful. I also notice changes in the way they interact with others. They speak with more confidence, they show up more boldly in spaces, and they begin to take up the space they deserve. That’s the real transformation. It’s not just about the outfit, it’s about how they begin to experience themselves.
For women who may feel disconnected from their personal style or unsure how to express themselves through clothing, what is the first step toward using style as a tool for confidence and self‑empowerment?
The first step is self-understanding. Personal style isn’t just about following trends, it’s about clarity and alignment with who you are. That means understanding your body shape, your lifestyle, your goals, and the version of yourself you’re evolving into because your wardrobe should support it all. It’s also about recognizing how you want to express your personality through clothing. When women start with that level of clarity, style becomes much less overwhelming and much more empowering. Your wardrobe begins to reflect not just how you look, but how you want to feel. This philosophy is actually the foundation of my styling method through Bloom in Style. I guide women through understanding themselves first, because when you know who you are and what you want to express, the wardrobe naturally follows. Style isn’t about changing who you are, it’s about expressing it with confidence.
