We recently had the chance to connect with Tyree Dones and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyree, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What battle are you avoiding?
The battle I’ve been avoiding is really the battle of choosing myself. I’ve always been the person who shows up for everyone clients, family, friends and sometimes that means I put my own needs last. Choosing myself requires me to set boundaries, say no to things that drain me, and prioritize my peace, even if it disappoints people. Im learning I have to sometimes put myself first so I can be the best version of myself to help others. I can’t keep pouring into other people’s cups while my own cup is low.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Tyree Dones. I’m a real estate agent, entrepreneur, and content creator who’s passionate about helping people navigate major transitions in their lives. I’ve built my brand on professionalism, creativity, and authenticity, and I’ve been honored to be recognized through award nominations and magazine features. At my core, I’m someone who shows up for others, leads with intention, and strives to bring value in everything I do whether that’s through real estate, community impact, or storytelling.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that has served its purpose and now needs to be released is the version of me that felt responsible for carrying everything and everyone. That mindset helped me survive, helped me build, and helped me show up for a lot of people. But it also kept me in situations longer than I should’ve stayed, and it made me prioritize peace for others over peace for myself.
That version of me taught me strength, resilience, and loyalty. But now, I’m in a place where I need to release the habit of overextending, overgiving, and overexplaining. I’m stepping into a season where I honor my boundaries, protect my energy, and allow myself to grow without guilt. Letting go of that old version of me is how I make room for who I’m becoming.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say something to my younger self, I’d tell him: You don’t have to carry everything on your own. You’re doing the best you can with what you know, and that’s enough. Don’t shrink yourself to make other people comfortable, and don’t apologize for wanting more. The things you think are setbacks are actually shaping you. Trust your intuition it’s going to guide you exactly where you need to be. And most importantly, give yourself grace.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
The ideas I rely on the most that aren’t really my own are the ones that come from my bf and my family. I value their opinions, so sometimes I let their perspectives influence my decisions more than my own instincts do. Their intentions come from love and wanting the best for me so I try to consider that when taking their ideas.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m in my own space and not thinking about anything. When I can step away from everyone and everything, clear my mind, and just exist without pressure or expectations, that’s when I feel the calmest. Those quiet moments where it’s just me to help me reset and feel grounded.
