Story & Lesson Highlights with Treniece Green of Tampa, FL

Treniece Green shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Treniece, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Outside of my business, my heart posture is what I am most proud of building. It has taken time, prayer, but I realized everything we do comes from the heart or is fueled by a strong emotion. So when trying to move forward and grow, I was stunted due to anger, pride, fear being a root for a lot of my bigger emotions, so God and myself had to do some pruning and uprooting to fix that so I can go where he needs me to go, and do the works he has planned for me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! My name is Treniece I am the owner and creator of a luxury crochet handbag brand Covered by T. Covered by T is a brand that is committed to craftsmanship, timeless style, and sustainability. Each handbag is designed and crocheted by me, meaning no two bags are identical making them as one of a kind as the individual that owns one. Our handbags are made from T-shirt yarn, a durable yet sustainable fabric to ensure we are eco friendly as a commitment to a more responsible future. Lastly, Covered by T handbags are more than just accessories they are timeless statements, whether a delicate evening clutch or an elegant every day tote, our pieces are designed to transcend trends, adding a touch of artistry to ever outfit.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As I child I believed being good = lovable, and feared rejection when I messed up. The older I get the more I understand that perfection is not achievable, and that win, lose or draw my worth is not conditional. I would not be truthful to say some habits are completely gone, perfectionism being one of them but that line of thinking is definitely something I no longer believe.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Your body is not too much, your imagination is not too out of the box, and one day the very creativity and body they teased you for will be the reason people admire you, please do not shrink babygirl. I promise it gets better!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
“Luxury = quality = worth” – The higher the price tag, the more valuable the item. The truth most of the luxury pricing is just branding, it has nothing to do with craftsmanship. Worth can’t be worn.

“Only certain body types can be fashionable.” – The truth is style does not have a specific body type it belongs to
everyone.

“The trends make you relevant” – The truth is relevance has nothing to do with trends, it’s about authenticity and confidence.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Covered by T is me doing what I was born to do. Everything in life feels like it makes sense when I get to create a new handbag and see the light in the customers eyes when they purchase a Covered by T handbag. It makes all the late nights, no sales, needle pricked fingers tips, and achy wrists from crocheting worth it. Time slows, the world goes quiet, my thoughts can just focus in on my specific task and it forces me to slow down and enjoy the process.
