Samara Ash shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Samara, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
Many of us secretly struggle with feeling like we are not good enough to be in our fields—whether it’s art, marketing, business or anything else. That feeling usually creeps in when we start comparing ourselves to others through the social media filter, which is often more curated than real.
It’s easy to forget that what we see online is the highlight reel, not the whole story. In truth, the real goal is simple: to be a better version of who I was yesterday—that’s true growth and success as a human being.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Samara, founder of Samara Ash Studio, a bespoke art consultancy and creative studio based in Miami. With over 25 years in the fine arts, my work merges nature, technology, and spirituality to explore evolution, transcendence, and the interconnectedness of all things. I’ve created large-scale public artworks across the U.S. and Europe, collaborating with cities like Lakeland, Fort Myers, Stuart, and Fort Pierce; organizations such as the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation, Miami International Fine Arts, Fountainhead Arts, Espronceda Institute of Art & Design (Barcelona) and the Koubek Center; and brands including Disney, film director Steven Soderbergh Singani 63, Channing Tatum’s Magic Mike Live Tour, and luxury Windstar Cruises among others.
Teaching is also a core part of my practice—I frequently give art talks and run an art academy through S.A.S. that welcomes students from toddlers to elders. Along the way, my work has been honored with multiple awards and featured in national publications. Ultimately, my work is guided by a desire to honor the Creator and inspire others to unlock their creative potential, experiencing how art can truly transform lives.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks the bonds between people is usually a lack of communication—and assumptions that grow in that silence.
I believe communication is key; we don’t have to think alike to stay connected. We can agree to disagree while still respecting each other’s perspectives. At the core, we all feel the same things—love, pain, joy, sadness. We’re all interconnected, even when our points of view don’t align.
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
As an immigrant, I faced many challenges growing up—not only after arriving in this country with no money, no English, and my family still in Colombia, but also back home, where violence was part of everyday life. What helped me most was holding onto my faith in God. Trusting that I could overcome anything by surrendering each hardship to Him gave me strength, hope, and a deep sense of peace that carried me through.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies the art world tells itself is that success is only measured by fame, sales, or social media clout. Another is that you have to fit a certain mold or style to be “legitimate.” The truth is, real impact comes from authenticity, consistent practice, and the courage to create work that resonates—regardless of trends or external validation.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow, I think my clients would miss the one-on-one, truly attentive listening I bring to every project. I commit fully to developing an artistic vision—whether it’s a monumental mural, painting, photograph, or installation—that tells their story while reflecting my credo of inspiring one another, transcending, and evolving toward our higher selves.
